I've got a line on one of these, perhaps by the end of the year.

Which one are you planning on getting?
I've been eyeing these for a while but its a BIG investment once you add the sliding rail and long fence attachments. I would also prefer the 85 but would need a converter onsite.

I'm hoping to buy an Erika 85 within a year-- it seems like the absolute perfect blend of precision and portability. I wish I could see one in person prior to purchase, though.

I would love to see one before buying. Anyone on the East coast has an advantage as driving to TimberWolf will be the cost of Shipping. If you get the 85 are you going to have a transformer for onsite? When considering options its hard to choose when the 70 is close in price to the 85.

Do both the 70 and 85 have the same 'Pull' cut length?
In the catalog the "cutting length" is listed as follows:
70 = 344 mm (13.5 inches)
85 = 430 mm (16.9 inches)
I would prefer the longer pull function. Thats the only thing pushing me to the 85 over the 70.
Whats directing you to the 70?

I also prefer the 85 and the difference in price (though substantial) isn't enough to convince me that I won't end up regretting not having sprung for the greater capacity. The voltage isn't a concern as it will be confined mostly to my shop, but I will look around for a good transformer for when I want to use it elsewhere (such as in my house.) Unfortunately, when I last talked to Timberwolf (a few months ago) they didn't have an Erika and I got the impression that they probably weren't going to be ordering one for display purposes. It's really a shame--- it's unlikely that Festool will ever clear the UL hurdles bringing the Precisio over and Mafell's presence is barely a whisper in our market.

I would prefer the 85 but its the voltage thing again. Maybe I'll put an offer on the big biy with all the bells and whistles

I'v seen that video before. Too bad I have no idea whats being said.
The Blade stop function on the Festool looks better than the Mafell, but the Erika won over all.

Kiiiiiinda, I have to make a trip out to see a german timber framer dude who will have my dd40, he's got both the 85 and the 70 and I asked about buying one last year. He's got a lot of their timber framing gear as well aaand a vac and the sander....he pretty much has the catalogue.

Sounds like you found a local supplier I would have no problem offering on a used 70 or 85. For gosh sakes.....Who has both!?! Now for the rest of us, who will have to pay full price, the Erika is one spendy dude.

It is pricey especially for a portable table saw. He's not quite local and not exactly a supplier but seemed willing to talk about selling some stuff.
