while making a cut, my motor seized and smoke like crazy.... .i had to remove the battery to have it stop...
has anyone else had this experience? Im afraid the $700+ saw is toast and not even two years old....
we will see what timber wolf tools says, but I really would like the repair to be paid for I have very little use in this tool

Funny, I just sent mine back for repair. Different issue though - saw wouldn't even start. I'm sure your repair cost will be covered, Brice.

Couple of years. Pretty sure it has a 2017 build date.

I've swapped most of my tools to Mafell and this is the only issue I've ever had. It's a pain, but I'm not overly upset.

Shite happens. I'm also the not-so-proud owner of a dead KSS 50 18M BL too. One day it just maliciously wouldn't start. At all. Full LED illumination when triggered, but that's it. Nowt so much as a squeak, groan or fizz from the motor itself. Ran perfectly prior.
Bought myself a MT55 18M Bl as a (partial) replacement, but I'm resigned to saving for another KSS (maybe a 60, maybe not?) & eventually sending/bringing in the dead "50" for repair if & when I can make the 20,000 odd km commute to "das Vaterland" at some time in the indeterminate future.

Smoked up the A10M which had a motor replacement under guarantee. KSS40 beeps and won't work sometimes - removing and reinserting battery works... I'd been meaning to sell the KSS40 before the guarantee ran out and getting a new one - but it's still going strong. To be fair, I have far too many tools, so none of them get used too much!
Brice, how old is your KSS... please report back to let us know how you get on with Timberwolf/Mafell

Brice, how old is your KSS... please report back to let us know how you get on with Timberwolf/Mafell I purchased saw in 4/2018 used it for one build over that summer and tidbits here and there since.... I love the saw but will I really need mafell/timberwolf to come strong for me to continue the loyalty.... i suspect they will take care and repair the saw for a reasonable amount or at no cost (I'm hoping) but we will see..... its just weird how it went down....no beep beep, just a bind then smoke and more smoke.....and my finger was removed from the trigger as soon as the wood tension squeezed the blade. The wood was just 3/4" pine by the way. I was cutting an address sign to size for my sister, really embarrassing as your trying to show off your "awesome" german tools.q if they don't fix ill be selling off misc parts and replacing with a makita saw.....fingers crossed...

My kss40 just fried today. Had just under 2weeks and used 2/3 days cutting deck boards approx 1500 cuts.... wtf $1000.00 package. Sparked smoked and smelled like festool. Weather is chilly, simply cutting 5/4 trex. Dam what a time saver this ili thing is. I'm pissed. It's going to slow down my production. I call timberwolf. Send it in we'll look at it.... and fix. Bullchitt

this is funny!.. thanks!
Sorry to hear about the KSS. I'm guessing TW does repairs instead of sending to Germany for repairs? Hope it gets back to you quickly.

Sending back tomorrow. The thing that pisses me off the most is that I'm in the middle of massive job and it's a massive time saver. Should have back in hands by Wednesday. Really sweet lil saw. Another thing that bugs me is it brand new I have to pay for shipping back and there's only 1yr warranty.. in Europe they have 3 yr.
