So to confirm. Will the Metabo batteries work for these saws?

All Metabo's slide-on lithium batteries made over the last 10 years or so will work, but as it's a fairly large & energy hungry saw I'd recommend only LlHD batteries =/> 99wh, which is what Mafell are using as standard anyway. It would be a bit too slow & gutless with an older battery incapable of high current delivery. As previously mentioned in another post or thread, those "99s" have the highest delivery: all of 1400w!
So, just to clarify, any 18v Li slide-on battery marketed as a Metabo, Mafell or Rothenberger will work. However, LiHDs will work best.

Calidecks: I am using the Metabo LiHD 5,5Ah / Mafell 99's... ...great batteries. LiHD is a slight boost for sure, the KSS 40 is running well on them. I have the 3,1 LiHD for the drill, jigsaw and Multicutter and it gives awesome runtime on the drill and decent on the saws.
Order is confirmed but Mafell rep was not in office last week so no delivery date yet.

Quote like Post Options Post by huntsgemein on yesterday at 9:30am Don't forget also that massive Bosch akkumulator pack with built in inverter that will recharge batteries all day long. One overnight charge and it will power all tools (including 220/240v) all day Huntsgemein do you have a link for this accumulator pack? Couldn't find anything on the Web Read more: mafell-users-forum.freeforums.net/thread/886/new-kss50-cordless-mt55?page=9#ixzz4kUpnqvYp

Thanks for the link Huntsgemein. An impressive looking unit!!!but certainly not cheap. I wonder if we will see it in Australia.

You could buy a decent gennie for that kind of price. When going down that sort of route, maybe a variant of one of those "power wall" battery banks for domestic solar storage might actually be more cost effective, esp. if it could be made at least semi-portable.

On the topic of portable power, has anyone tried using a portable jump starter (like this one or similar:https://shop.antigravitybatteries.com/products/micro-starts/xp-10/) to charge tool batteries?
I've heard/read that they use different chemistry that allows greater power density than regular L-ion cells, but they're better suited to deliver lots of power in a short time, rather than the extended run time that we prefer for power tools. But they can be used to charge laptops, cell phones, etc, so my brain gears are slowly turning...

A mate of mine makes a reasonable part-time living designing & selling stand-alone solar/wind domestic & commercial power systems. Mostly he will install a 24v lead acid array for storage. These batteries apparently hate deep discharge: it's an effective way to dramatically shorten their lifespan, if not kill them outright. Most quality inverters these days that ramp up voltages from 24-240v incorporate voltage monitoring to prevent this, & shut down the system when cell voltage reaches a critical minimum.
Different battery chemistries tend to have different characteristics, however. Lithium cells also hate deep discharge. They also generally hate high current inputs & draw, too, generating excess heat in protest. This situation is improving, however even the latest require ventilation, fan cooling, heat finning & other measures to dissipate excessive heat. Lithium is light, lead heavy. Gel batteries can cope with greater discharge levels than "standard" car batteries, but struggle to deliver the massive high current "Cold Cranking Amps" often required to cold start a big friction & compression dense diesel motor. They are great for storage & powering RVs, campers, solar households etc.
I suspect (but don't really know) that the jump start storage cells may be predicated around delivering intermittent, high current discharge for vehicle starting rather than longer term lower rates of discharge for appliances. At least they're light & portable.

Just placed an order for the KSS 50 pure from Tobias and was told they are still not available and Mafell can't give him an exact date. Has anyone actually taken delivery of one of one of these saws?

Still waiting on mine too... Talked to the rep two days ago when he was dropping off some stuff for me. My dealer has been bugging Mafell sales rep in Germany and are a bit annoyed with the fact that Mafell can't seem to give any shipping dates - apparently not even a preliminary date yet. Still on for the first batch to reach the dealer but it seems like I should not be holding my breath...
