- KSS50 on 18v 5.2Ah LiHD battery, 5.4kg corded 5.6kg cordless - Cordless MT55cc on 18v 5.2Ah LiHD battery - A new insulation cutter DSS300
About time they updated the aging KSS400 and bring it in line with the rest of the saw line-up with the new design.
Now we need some new routers and KSS ready baseplate for the MT55 saws!

The Classifieds section could really come alive soon.

Hall 13, Stand B34
Seems like we should be able to get someone to do a video for us and post it here.

The posted link simply doesn't work for me. Frustrating. Google provided this Anglicised Press Release, However. www.werkzeug-news.de/akkuwerkzeuge/17/metabo-kabellosebaustelle-1481.htmlIt appears the batteries (@ 99 watt/hours) are actually 5.5ah, which are actually the most powerful 18v batteries yet released, capable of delivering a pretty amazing 1400w (78amps) of current! This makes them probably the best battery of all for high draw appliances like these bigger, deeper cutting tracksaws. The otherwise larger 6.2ah. cells are still able to unload 67 amps, which is pretty good, but it still makes the ostensibly "smaller" 5.5s the more powerful and probably best suited of all for these saws & Metabo's 9" grinder.

At last Mafell has a 50mm cutting cordless x-cut/tracksaw that uses the updated electrically commutated motor and high current battery technology. Time to start saving those pennies. I'm sure the former Bosch-based saws were good, but this is a much more effective and timely adoption of the latest technology available. I had actually become worried about the company's long-term future as a consequence of still retaining that long-outmoded Bosch 36v system, especially when Bosch themselves have long since moved onto EC motors and Sanyo 20700 battery cells.

So the 5.5ah batteries listed on the Metabo website are the 99watt/hour ones your talking about?I purchased 2x 6.2ah batteries assuming they had the most grunt but would consider buying an extra 5.5ah one if it actually has more power.
Still loving my KSS 40 18volt.It's so light even with the 6.2LiHD battery on it but will definitely consider a KSS 50 as well just for the extra cutting depth. Compared to the newer brushless saws my current 36V Hilti feels like a bit of a dinasaour.
Makita have just released this which looks interesting it's just a shame the blade is on the wrong side. .
Lets hope they release the KSS 50 as just a skin as well as I don't really want to double up on batteries and chargers.

Ohm's Law 101: V=IxR, R=V/I & I=V/R and P=IxV, I=P/V & V=P/I where V=Voltage, R=Resistance (Ohms), I=Current (Amperes), P=Power (Joules/Second [Watts]).
Even the 3.1s & 6.2s are capable of delivering 1200w, so don't for a moment think either of these are in any way gutless. In comparison, the Bosch 36v 2.6 & 4.0 fatpack batteries are hard pressed to exceed 600w, which tends to restrict the type of tools to which they may be attached.
Bosch are now using the now standard 20700 cells in their newest ranges of Eneracer Batteries & Professional range of contractors' landscaping tools and their big Cordless Power Unit Mobile Battery Bank, which claims a massive 1650 watt/hour peak, 1500 watt constant of recharging and even 220V AC power. You can even run a full-on corded demo hammer from this baby for over an hour and a half!
Which is why this new saw/battery combination is just in another league. Surely another charger isn't a bad thing? Even if it's unwanted, you can always sell it on to another Mafell/Metabo/Rothenberger user anyway. You never know, the new saws might just be coming with one of the old (but superior) ASC 15 chargers or the new(ish) ASC Ultra, both of which have much greater current and much shorter charge times than the cheaper low current ASC 30-36.
I'd be getting the whole fruit salad myself just to access those magic 1400 watt 5.5ah batteries anyway. Bugger the charger, those batteries are just the ticket for hardwood, even if they do require slightly more frequent recharge than the 6.2s or the coming 7.0s.

Hi just read the new saw cuts 52mm at 90 "kss 50 " will that cut through 2 inch stud at 45 No. 52mm IS 2". Pythagorean Geometry 101: The capacity when bevelled will be more like 35mm odd, just like any other 160/165mm saw. Think of a blade bevelled @ 45 degrees as the long side of a right angle triangle with the 3rd angle being 45 degrees also. The vertical reach diminishes in direct proportion to the angle of the hypotenuse.

Great answer I was hoping I'd read it wrong "in German " if that's the case think my next saw will still be kss 60 thanks for reply regards Gary

I was contemplating buying the ASC Ultra but the price put me off. It's around the $220 mark. I was also told that a slower charge is better for the battery but don't know how true this is. I still have a Metabo ICS 10 charger that charged a 12 volt battery in 10 minutes. I've often wondered why this rapid charging technology was not copied by the other major companies at the time.
