Properly the damp timber. Also as well giving the rails a spray with lubricant also maybe add a bit of 2*1 under the cut area so the waste falls awa from the blade. I'm presuming you didn't have a silly size of waste on the right. At times certain cuts can be a pain

Charles I know what you mean but can't imagine what difference it would make whether you start with the saw off the workpiece or on it and plunge in...
..Wright..no long lengths of off-cut trapping the blade..

I was just talking about the initial alignment of the saw towards the edge, not a plunge cut . With my saw it sometimes felt as if the stops were properly aligned to the edge but when pushing the saw forward , the improper alignment would readjust and then the workpiece-or the off-cut - side would cause drag on the blades' body. Can you see drag-marks on the sawblades body?

I was trying to get behind the saw and push straight ahead. The cut left to right from the front to back and I'm right handed..so the left stop, underneath the rail, was at the lower 45deg indent..so i was pushing forward..maybe I was unconsciously pushing the saw body over to the right and bending the blade. BS - The saw is on a rail... Unless you are rocking it up I cannot see how any side force results in any side motion of the saw... all you have is more friction against the rail unless there is slope on the rail guides. I could be wrong... So try making a cut and putting force on it to the right and left, and see if it moves while you are cutting.

If there was any side motion it would include the rail which didn't have any hold on the wet timber. So cutting from L to R, front to back I'm pushing the saw to the right away from me..either the sodden timber was closing in behind the cut or the whole 400 incl rail was moving over to the right against the timber forcing the blade in against the red kerf strip.

Been using the 400 on and off of its cross-cut rail for a few weeks now and what really bugs me is that mafell didn't deem it necessary to put a flat Base on the rail to stop it falling over when you lean it against a wall for example. Obviously wasn't field tested..

Can someone in ol' Blighty contact them and ask if they ship to the US? I've tried emails and their contact page and no answer. I'm not sure if that's my hint that they don't sell to North America? The time difference with my location makes it difficult to call; can any UK members help with the info?
