I think expensive tools are not only a big financial investment, but for many people by extension they are an emotional commitment as well. Maybe that's why some try to defend and dismiss certain pitfalls of a tool. But that's just my opinion though.
That said, I too have a Kapex and my table isn't flat either. My primary and actually only motive for acquiring it, was the dust collection.

Hi Mike, welcome to the MUF!
Yes, there has been a proliferation of pretty frivolous threads over there recently and it's becoming tedious to wade through them. Glad to have you on board, make sure to make an entry in the "Introductions" thread to tell us a little about yourself!

I would hope that we've created an atmosphere here that welcomes criticism. I've stated repeatedly that we operate without influence of a manufacturer or dealers and that our primary goal is to provide user feedback on the use of mafell and other tools where there is little. I feel the user has the ultimate say in whether a tool is right for them or not. It's always disappointing when you've spent a pile on something and you feel it's not worth the cost. We are not a cult of mafell who will blindly follow the company as long as they give us stickers. This should be a good place to vent your praises and curses equally.

I no longer go to the FOG. Gave up years ago after my Threads asking about Mafell products were locked. You have to remember that the FOG is company owned. Its censured in favor of a companies interests. Theres nothing wrong with that but at this point in my woodworking I'm more selective with who I help or communicate with.
When it comes to forums the FOG is like the big city and MUF is like a small town. I'm more of small town kind of guy.

I won't lie. This forum is inspired off the FOG. When I first joined it was a lot more open. Gradually it became a walled garden. I'm sure there's still great people posting on there but I felt the threads getting attention were the ones kissing festools balls. Pardon the expression. Then came the censorship, which will usually get me off somewhere else. While we have 3 people designated as administrators on this forum, I consider it open to everyone. It's your forum as much as it's mine and we only answer to ourselves.

They locked the thread and deleted many comments so I doubt anyone actually got to see what was actually posted. Looking at it now you'd think I was over reacting. I was verbally attacked by a couple of festool groupies because I said the kapex deck should be flat. Thanks for the welcome il be posting in the introduction section next

No problem. Alot of us have festool as well. I know we're happy to share our experiences with them to boot.

I have lots of Festool and prefer many of there tools. They are a good value for most items but the FOG doesn't allow open criticism. Problems are pushed in private to there technicians. Its a private business and doesn't have to operate according to anyones ideals but there own.
It helps to have an accurate perspective. I think of the FOG like one large advertisement.

Its a private business and doesn't have to operate according to anyones ideals but there own. It helps to have an accurate perspective. I think of the FOG like one large advertisement. My sentiments exactly. The FOG is there to facilitatie guiding people to their service dept and pull in any people that are on the fence.
There's a ton of people there that are Festool loyalists. They only buy Festool and they are so involved in the Festool system it's pretty much all they see or want. Any issues get redirected to their service dept to showcase how great their service is, or the issue gets dismissed by the loyalists.
It's basically there to showcase a feel-good story of being involved in the Festool eco-system. It's a smart thing and it really works well for Festool. I will say this though, owning a Festool and needing the service dept outside of the States is a often a different story altogheter
But that's a testament to the excellent work Shane Holland and the rest of the crew over there perform. They do do a great job over there, but one has to realise it's all in function of their brand and company.
The FOG is the place to discuss your Festool stuff, but not much else. And that's OK. But myself and other likeminded individuals also feel the need to be active on other woodworking forums as well where we can openly discuss all things & don't have to be too careful about the phrasing. I hope the MUF can become one of those havens for many more woodworkers.

Yeah, I do not post much on FOG - some threads are still good, but I am pretty tired of the fan-boys that have nothing but praise for anything Festool and are quick to knock anyone down with a criticism. I like MUF a lot and I, along with a few others on here, frequent Bethepro as well - where you collect points for posts and actually get free Bosch products. While it seems kind of gimmicky, it is not - and pretty much the entire Bosch catalog is up for grabs.

I think it's great that amateurs/hobbyists can discuss topics with pro's, share information etc., and I really like the FOG - but, there are way too many threads asking what abrasive paper to use, or what length of nail to use, etc, etc, etc. I've only been on there for a year or so, and there has been a real swing towards that type of post, that wasn't there when I first joined. The blind devotion - I sort of expected that, knowing that it was a company run forum.
