Man, I just had to come over to this site for some fresh air. I can't tell who's stinking it up over there. Moderators or posters. There's a bad vibe. Thank you for this forum

It's a strange place that FOG. I've got a few PMs that I just shake my head at. I've only got a hundred posts over there but I guess if you don't drink the koolaid you shouldn't have an opinion.
Here and BTP are def two much better places to get a real and honest opinion on tools. No matter the color.

Went to the FOG to see what your referring to which I think is the Carvex topic. That video was a problem a while back and was believed to be manipulated for the desired results. Not really a big deal since we know which saw is the better unit

Yeah, the Carvex thread, and a couple more related ones that lead up to it, re. warranty and after market items used in/with Festool gear.

I will say though, I don't mind people sticking up for their favourite tools (or what ever) it's when people dismiss the posters who have a issue, and basically tell them to stop whining or @#*! off. There are a couple of really offensive posters there, who seem to get stuck in whenever there's a problem.

Yeah some of the people do take it too far. In all honesty the guy with the carvex had a problem. The machine was going to break regardless of it being a festool blade or blade by others. I think festool USA could of handled the whole matter a lot better

The number of hobbyist Festool owners seems to have ballooned in the past few years. And they're always the loudest ones on the forum, with the least amount of experience. Its really grating at times.

Again, this site is much smaller and younger than the fog. It's up to us to shape the culture here and our independence has allowed us that freedom. let's just remember, what might be the right tool for us might not be worth it to someone els, and that's totally cool. Mafell and festool sell some pretty pricey gear and I guess some are secretly insecure about the pile they've spent and just don't want to hear a bad word said about them. My tools are hired to work for me,and if they aren't cutting the slack then we have a problem.

There was a guy who got thrown off last night. They deleted his posts but I saw it before they did. He was refusing to keep part of the conversation private. He then posted the warning he got sent as a pm. He seems to be gone now. I think the biggest problem fog has is that they have an agenda -to sell Festools. That in itself leads to some limits of what they can allow on their site

Exactly why I didn't want direct involvement from distributors. Keeping the opinions pure.

The FOG is a great resource but you have to know its limitations. I'm leery of any information from a hobbyists which is one reason I don't spend any time on the FOG. Not always bad information but use some serious discretion. When you make a living with tools you look at problems and costs differently. Forums are just ground level for research. Its important that everyone digs deeper.

I don't know jalvis, there are as many "pros" over there that have drank the green koolaid as well. I wouldn't paint it all on hobbyists. But I do agree it has turned from a mainly pros forum to more of a hobbyist forum in the last few years.

I enjoy some posts on FOG, but there are some clowns on that site and it seems more so of late. Crazy people who only see positives with Festool and poo-poo any tools other than Festool. I do not frequent that site much anymore...Be The Pro and this site are my two main sites nowadays.

I actually post on the FOG often but, I'm not married to Festool products just the ones I appreciate like the Domino Joiner. I have been in countless discussion on the FOG where people post that once you have a track saw you don't need a table saw. I say for a furniture maker like myself, that is utter nonsense. But, I haven't been banned over there.
I have found other forums much more biased such as the "Woodworking Talk" where you get criticized for suggesting that you buy an expensive tool or machine (when you can buy from "Harbor Freight").
I like this forum and look forward to contributing as well as getting good information.
Jack
