I personally love the pistol grip. the 1010 has a nice balance on it. So good i've used it overhead on a ladder without tipping. You should be pleased with the ergonomics of either choice

Jason- Thanks for the detail in your post. your example comparing the threaded spindle portion of the domino to an angle grinder explains your point very well. Every time I use an angle grinder with a diamond cup wheel threaded onto it I can barely get it offend feel like I'm gonna bust my knuckles.
The pistol grip is a strange one. It still seems to me like it shouldn't feel normal but I like it if that makes any sense. It just seems like since it is high on the tool and off center that it would result in constant accidental tipping which for some reason isn't the case.

Hi everyone. Decided to pull the trigger on the LO50E should arrive in a week or so. It looks a bit agricultural compared to the Festool equivalent, but it's for work, besides I've had no problems whatsoever with the rest of my Red kit and they work beautifully, so I'm sure I will be very happy. Christ GhostFist, one handed on a ladder, have you heard of HSE - health and safety standards, only joking. Will let you guys know how I get on using it, looking forward to another family member.

Lol, "agricultural look", nice Good decision, i own this nice little machine too and its great in its class! I own the special "guiderail" too, very expensive but its a real Mafell development! hehe, "agricultural"!

3 points of contact means only one hand free to route Build quality to me is more important than style when it comes to tools, or well built is my preferred style if you want to look at it that way. I find the handle configuration and size of the 1010 makes it real easy to stabilize and control in weird situations like this. Should everyone go try ladder routing? no but it does say something about the ergonomics. look forward to a detailed review. That's the rule by the way, you let it out of the bag that you're buying a new tool you have to give a thorough and honest review

GhostFist. Agree 100%, build quality is far more important than looks, these machines are built for work, not putting on the mantle peice. Never done a review on tools before, but when it arrives and I stop salivating, will give my totally unbiased thoughts, even though it looks like it was made in the 70s, but cost me the earth. Also, does that mean I too have to perch on top of a ladder while testing, does it need to be switched on! The review will end, hospital...

christoph. The only reason why I mention, "agricultural" is for one, the graph on the casing - think I know what speed to use it at, well maybe, but also, maybe a bit of rubber on the handle may be nice... But I will wait untill it's in my grubby mitts, no rubber on my KSS300 and it fits like a glove, so will see... I love New toys, Oops tools arriving, but they don't stay new for long... But the pleasure when you first open the box, should be in a museum, not for something horrible, like work!

How about this for your review, Initial thoughts good and bad and I'd like you to try and find some bad points and then a follow up after a couple of months use.

I liked the "agricultural" thing and i think your absolutely right, the lo50e looks realy old-fashioned. The good thing about that old Mafell Design is, the machines are not getting older (very very solid surfaces), so we have good chances that it stays like that until the 70's look gets en vogue again

That's what I like to hear christoph, solid surfaces, no cheep plastic bits, but there seams to be a lot of square edges, and the handle looks as uncomfortable as hell. But I trust Mafell, and not so much Festool, but I have to say one deciding factor was the extraction hose casting on the OF1010, for me that's a no no. I'm sure when my friends come to the shop and I show my new toys, they will say "you paid how much for that 70s thing", but they know sh*t. As you may be aware I'm a fussy git when it comes to my tools, I'm sure I will find something wrong with it, even if it purrs like a kitten! So GhostFist your wishes will come true, hehe. But before that there will be the arrival of the MT55CC, hopefully on Thursday, things take a bit longer in this neck of the woods... Now that really will be like Christmas...

Perfect jay, the reason I say that is because I'd like this site to remain as honest as possible. If someone comes in here looking for a user review I don't want it to be just fanboy comments. We should be able to judge the good and bad on everything. Nothing is 100% perfect.

Thinking of getting the lo65 router and the router adapter kit for the Erika. I don't really use a router cat work so am thinking the voltage of being only available in 240 won't matter as I intend to use only on my own projects and not at work. If I need for work a dewalt or makita will suffice
