I hadn't really noticed the flat base until someone mentioned it... it's just gone way up on my to buy list!.. working of a surface as with the Zeta is a big time saver and more accurate. For me, it is not DD40P replacement - (maybe a DD40G replacement, which I don't have)... I think it would make a good addition to the 'P'.

The flat base changes everything. With DD40P, you can only drill with the support of free hand to hold the DD40P in place. With DDF40, you can use a flat surface with some clamps hold the timber in place, to drill the holes. That DD40P video give me another reason for me to put on my bucket list.

I am surprised why it took so long for Mafell to see the advantages of having a flat base. I could trace a Mafell DD40P video back to 2013. It took them 5 years to have a new model? Even the cheapest Ryobi has new products or models every year. I heard they had some supplier issues with early prototypes. Very funny CK, in the woodworker journal there is an artikel from 2002. www.woodworkersjournal.com/mafell-dd40-duo-dowel-system/They updated the DD40 at some point. At first there was the DD40. It made use of a belt to drive the drill bits (that can bee seen in the drawing and part list for the lower machine numbers). I guess at some point they decided to make a second version with a different gear ratio to get more torque to the drill bit. The DD40P. The DD40 became the DD40G (again only guessing). They changed the belt drive to the same gear drive the DD40P has, but with a different ratio. I don't mind long production periods of these tools if they are good. It's not like an smartphone ore so. Keep in mind it is a rather small company with approx. 300 employees (https://www.mafell.de/en/company/philosophy/) Martin

Does Mafell have an adaptor just like Festool Trim Stop?

Received my DDF40 two days ago. I've played around with it a bit and used it to join two lovely pieces of Iroko to make a bar top. No measuring throughout that process and the joint line's up perfectly and is very strong with just the dowels (all my clamps were slightly too small so awaiting some new Bessey's that are large enough). Really impressed so far! This is my first jointing machine, I was very close to buy the Festool DF500 but then I saw a video on Peter Millard's channel that showed the D&M Toolshow demo of the machine and I was convinced. Prior to buying this machine I had been using dowel jigs from axminster and Jessem but to be honest they all had fairly annoying drawbacks and took a lot of time. Overall I am incredibly pleased and see it as one of the three primary tools in my workshop for cabinetry along with the TS55R and the OF1400

Does Mafell have an adaptor just like Festool Trim Stop? It has a small piece included in the MaxiMax version called 'Stop pin insert for battens LA' which accomplished the same thing as the Trim stop for the Festool domino. Video of it in use here :

I think it's the Belgian Pro-Wood show which ran from 21 - 25 Oct 2018 I speak French (I'm a french canadian) so i can translate some parts if you need. This is Artibat, the western France tools show. Btw, at one point he asks the guy if there is a chance we'll see a cordless version in the future and he answers not at the moment but that nothing is stopping them from doing it since the batteries are now powerful enough.

I'm fluent in French, but thanks. Doing a nice kitchen install for a French Canadian here in France at the mo!
Haven't watched the video, but a cordless DDF40 would be perfect!

Does anyone what the minimum fence height is? In the description it is mentioned that the maximum is 62mm, but no reference to a minimum value. I’d like to know if it would be possible to center drill in 12mm sheet material.
