Does anyone what the minimum fence height is? In the description it is mentioned that the maximum is 62mm, but no reference to a minimum value. I’d like to know if it would be possible to center drill in 12mm sheet material. I'm on the Mafell demo stand right now and it looks like 6mm so 12mm board is fine.

Paid my deposit yesterday so looks like I've got a DDF40 coming as soon as the 110v comes out :-)
What are you dd40 guys using for cutters ? I gather the CMT ones are good value. Guessing it's the same size drills as the DDF40 ?

Hopefully a current user can come to the rescue regarding the CMT bits. For my duo doweller I have a mixture of the official Mafell bits and the CMT bits. The CMT bits are slightly shorter, by about 5mm, so have a slightly limited depth range. I never use the deepest settings so the CMT ones work great for me. I don't think they are rebranded for Mafell. BTW the Mafell jigsaw cunex jigsaw blades are unique to Mafell - they have a triangular section (like a samurai sword) which reportedly makes them more stable in cutting.

Hi Chippy1970 I have been looking at the DDF40 and am sorely tempted to get one. What has put a slight spanner in the works has been the cost of the Mafell dowel bits as they make Festool prices look decidedly cheap and I am struggling to see how two 5mm bits can be over £80 which I need for shelf pins as the LR32 drives me to distraction. A bit of research on the net suggests that CMT make the bits for Mafell but I do not know if this is true. However, as Mafell jiggy blades are made by Bosch/Scintilla, rebranded and then and doubled in price I would not be at all surprised. If the same happens with the DDF bits and CMT do make them then Scott and Sergeant have them on sale at the mo and even at full price they undercut Mafell by a fair bit. My other self-inflicted problem is that I have both Domino’s and I am desperately trying to convince my wife that she really wants a DDF for Xmas, a mission which has received more than a cursory raised eyebrow and a blank expression. Hopefully a current user can come to the rescue regarding the CMT bits. After some early morning Googling I've found that my router bit supplier sell dowel drills and they are much cheaper. If they're anything like their cutters they'll be great. Wealden tools Maybe these are the size but I've not checked the Mafell details yet to check.

@ chippy1970 and patr what about buying from Dictum? Their prices is cheaper than your 2 for 80GBP. chippy1970 , do share your impression of it once you have it. I am tempted to get one but unsure if I should sell my DD40P. I had a generic drill bit that has the labelling "Dublebohrer" drill bit. It does not fit into my DD40P. BTW, the template guide can be a pain. Once there is a misalignment, it is game over.

Looks like I was wrong regards the wealden cutters they're all 10mm shank and from what I can tell now from looking online the DDF40 takes 8mm drills. That's ok though as I can see that CMT do 8mm ones for the DD40 so should be the same.

I’d like to know if it would be possible to center drill in 12mm sheet material. Just been to check on mine: - Using the base the cental line of the dowel drill is 10mm from the bottom and there are lines on the cheeks of the machine that correspond to this position.
- When using the fence the minimum height is 6.5mm. There is a hard stop for this on the side of the machine.
Hope this helps.

Leitz also make bits that fit, but only in a few sizes from memory. I have a mix of Mafell, CMT and Leitz. The Mafell are the best, last longer and are easier to plunge.

After looking at what the new DDF 40 brings to the table I will probably get one!
It is simply refined to the point it makes sense on so many levels for me. Will have to let go of one of the Domino machines I think though.

I think I'll get one at some point as an addition to the 'P' - keep the 'P' for 10 - 16mm dowels, and use the DDF for 5 - 8mm.

My DDF 40 MaxiMax kit with extra drill bits arrived today! ...at the dealership. I was pressed for time and could not pick it up but one of the guys lives close by so he was supposed to drop it off at my place this afternoon. Unfortunately he forgot all about it - so I will have to wait until tomorrow to try it out... ...well, never mind. I have some good feelings about the reworked DD40, it will go straight into action building some acoustic baffles and boxes at the current project. But first I will have to Plug-It.

Got mine yesterday evening. It is a bit chunkier than I expected but seems to handle nicely. Fitting the Plug-it cord was a chore and a half and I would recommend very careful and delicate removal of the existing cord since the plastic tab that secures the powercord is a very poor and fragile construction and prone to breaking off at the molding/side. Ask me how I know... That design does not inspire confidence - it means just changing a damaged cord is probably going to snap it off! Since it is an integral part of the chassis there is no fixing it afterwards though it can be replaced by something elsed that is screwed in instead of it. Took me some time to secure the Plug It after that mishap but now it is rock solid. I don't grab my machines by the cord anyway but it is nice to know it stays put. Machine feels very sturdy and it will spring into action this weekend doing some boxes and stuff. Will try to get some action shots and a verdict after first use. The DD40G will be present too. All the goodies are included in the MaxiMax including the adapter for the LR32 rails which we have at the shop. I am very interested in the other add ons as well in the package.
