Unfortunately no. I have to rely on google-fu for that. I am getting to the point where I can recognise words though I have many Japanese carpenter friends on facebook and most of them can speak English. I try to be polite and ask question in Japanese but sometimes it takes a few tries with google to get the wording right.

Hi guys, go gentle with me, first post etc...I've read most of the posts on this forum concerning the KSS 300/400/80 during extensive internet searching after my scms & vs gave up the ghost within a week of each other. For an upcoming project I was looking at getting a ts55 when I spied the Mafell KSS300. Whilst researching this I came across the 400 which seemed to have a more ideal doc.then along came the 80. Truth is I seem to have reached a state of mental overload reading up on these 3.the upcoming project will involve 40% sheet/ 40% 4x2/ 20% laminate. After this I'll be going back to decking, garden structures using 4, 6 & 8 by 2 an 3. Also fencing using 4/4 and 5/5 and sleepers etc. Now I thought of getting the 300 but it's doc isn't enough for most of my work and on my current project (framing a roof)a bosch 12"scms struggled with some of valley cuts but the 80 would of been ideal. My Q is this...is the 80 too heavy to use as a light duty saw..ie, mdf, chipboard, osb sheets as well as laminate & hardwood flooring & 4x2's or should I get the 400 and upgrade to the 80 when needed? Also what can the 300 do that the 400 that the 80 can't if you know what I mean. I thought they all had the same functions and rail usage but it seems not as the 400 won't shadow-gap to 13mm for instance.. Hello tymbian, welcome to the forum. If you can see yourself needing to cut lam and sheets after your upcoming job, then definitely the MT55. The KSS300 is a brilliant saw, but probably doesn't really fit with the type of work you do, so maybe the 400 would suit you better? I have the 300, but if I did decks or framing, would have bought the 400 instead. It's a hard choice, and can be a bit daunting - but, whatever saw/s you go for, I'm confident you'll be very happy. Lincoln.

Welcome aboard as you intend doing mostly first fix work then the kss 400 is properly the way to start off with. The 80 is properly a little bit big for sheet goods every day

I do not understand what is "First Fix" and "Second Fix"? Is there a kindergarten description or definition?

First fix is framing / studwork. Joists and rafters. Anything that forms the structure of a building really. Can also apply to electricians (aka sparks) running cables or plumbers running pipework. First fix is the bones and arteries of a building. Second fix is the skin. Skirting / arc and doors or baseboard and trim. Switch plates and sockets for sparky. Plumbers would be taps /faucets and sanitary ware. Probably left some stuff out but you get the idea

Thanks for the info..what would the disadvantages be of using the 80 instead of the 400 other than weight and can the 80 be used in conjunction with the 700 cross cutting track that you can get for the 400? I'm asking because I was wondering if I'd have a more capable ( ie. It would do more tasks ) saw by having the 80? As for a plunge/ scoring function one could just set the depth to 2mm or not..?just cause there isn't a dedicated switch doesn't mean it'll be rubbish at cutting worktops, melamine etc..

Welcome tymbian, manufactures seem to love to keep us hanging on for more and torturing us with just enough of one thing but not enough of the over. Anyway, I saw you posted in another thread so I responded over there.

I'm in the uk, I think your a whole day a way! My friend in Yorkshire sends me stuff which takes about 10 days. But if you get the drill let me know if the Milwaukee fits. Or if you are near someone else in the UK that has one... Maybe Woodwright has one? I am interested in that offset chuck. Hi Holmz, went to the show today :-( The chuck doesn't fit properly, it slots in ok, its just that the ring of "teeth" on metabo/ mafell drills have a smaller diameter than the Milwaukee, and so doesn't grip and lock. Its a shame really, because its the exact same design. Almost bought the mafell, but there was a deal on the bosch 18v flexiclick, so bought that instead. L-Box, drill, removable chuck, 1 4ah bat. for £109. Already have charger and other bats. Going to buy the other adapters seperatly.
Also going to sell the Milwaukee
Went to the Mafell stand, do like the cordless kss300. Saw the festool version, looks really nice.

Hi Holmz, not really sure how much. Haven't given it much thought. I'll say one thing though, its been used less than half a dozen times and then only really lightly.

Hi, folks! New user - got an MT55CC and rails a few months ago - it was the rail connectors that swayed me to the Mafell. Had to think long and hard before parting with that much cash because I'm not making money with it. Must have done a good few hundred metres mainly through ply and OSB, though - love it! How long should I expect the blade to last through wood like that? Built a Paulk workbench and trying to make it all work together. Will post pictures at some point. Best, Matt.

Welcome aboard glad you're enjoying using your mt55. If the blade is cutting fine keep using if not sharpen.
