I have the HKC for a year and am happy with it I was debating between the 400 and HK also The 400 is a beutiful saw but the weight and getting additional tracks made me try the HK Up to last year , I did all my framing with worm drives The HKC and 300 changed all that for the better

I am using it on track only , framing , siding , 3/4"X10 bevel siding Great accuracy because o f track Battarie will last a good amount of time Struggling with wet 2x10 and wet pt Of track drains battery and struggles If it's struggling and draining battery 'off track', but otherwise battery life is good - this suggests a technique problem, i.e. you are binding the blade by not pushing straight...

I wasn't clear enough with my explanation It starts struggling with wet 2X8 on track On LVL to I feel it works great on 2x4 and 2x6 I think that is the capacity it handles well It does not mean it won't cut it The cuts I made free hand are good, but freehand will never duplicate track ,otherwise we wouldn't be using tracks (yes more strain on the saw) Still happy to have it

What would be interesting to see, is a runtime/performance comparison between the hkc55 and the kss40. Kss40 maintaining a standard blade thickness though a smaller diameter. Both use a single 18v.

I'll be ordering the KSS40 pretty soon, so I'll have both until the HKC sells... not sure I have the time and patience to test the batteries until they run out though! The 5.2Ah Festool batts last a long time, even the new 2.6Ah lightweight is pretty good, but I'll be using the Metabo LiHd's with the KSS - will sure be interesting to see how long they last. I have 3.1Ah and 5.5Ah, don't know how that compares to the batts supplied with the KSS by Mafell.

I think the 40 is a System by itself The portability and protection of the flex rail in a systainer And Kss rail is great Run time on the 40 also should be better because of smaller blade Mafell seems to be a grade above festool in quality but availability is still a problem

Oh cool. Why are you selling the hk? Slimming down battery platforms, Festool doesn't offer anything that interests me, whereas Metabo does... and to be rid of the FS rails once and for all!

I think the Mafel rails are better ( joining ) Also the the strips are not as sensitive to heat

Been using the HKC the last couple of days on a 'home made' MDF rail as I have sold all my FS rails, and I still don't have the replacement MT55! (nearly a month now!).. it's performed well, but looking forward to getting the smaller lighter KSS40, the HKC seems heavy.
