Holmz: Kapex units are still going up in smoke... ...Festool uses the smoke screen to ship out more of them...
Any mitre saw that can't cut wood up to specified depth and length of cut without burning up is a flawed design, no matter the price point.

True, but over yonder I use to hear, "You get what you pay for"... with respect to the Kapex and the rest of the crap.
And then followed by Mafell is too expensive and not worth the extra beer-tokens.

There’s a lot of nudging when you’re trying to get the tightest miters and I’m not used to the degree pointer close to the fence, off axis for viewing. So unless the pointer is thicker than it looks and barely scraping the raised degree markings then one immediate mod I would make would be to either bend it down closer to the markings, or glue a florescent acrylic triangle underneath (or white plastic), or make a new pointer to replace it altogether.

Mine made 5 years and has had plenty of hammer on site so can't be too sad but I have felt it's on borrowed time for a while. Still generally pissed at festool though.

Good point.... it is owned by FT, and has a bias... which is their prerogative. I understand it, and I understand where my poking and picking at that scab was unwelcome. But I just could not help myself.

Wow you have loads of followers! And gained another:) did they say if they were going to bring out a MV tracksaw or any other new tools in the pipeline? I've gathered a few followers. I work with all the tool companies now to review and showcase new tools. Regarding new tools from Metabo HPT, just the table saw in early 2019 and the Japanese 7 1/4" in late 2019. There was no hints given as to other tools. We were told more tools are coming in Q1/Q2 2019.

Certainly above and beyond what I could commit. Are you a tradesman or hobbyist/enthusiast? I ask because as much as I love tools and what I do at the end of a day I want a beer and to relax (even if that is by surfing tool related interwebs)

But I enjoy helping people stay informed and make the right decision with their money. Right now, I am a PROsumer, enthusiast. I grew up with a hammer and tool elt working next to my father and have owned my own company before. All my time and effort goes into remodeling my 1941 home and Instagram.

This looks interesting but.... from the photos max 57 miter, not 60 and no bevel past 45 are misses. But if it’s made in Japan quality(although in the photos it looks more like recent made in China Hitachi it could be great.

Bengt; it is made in Japan and should be build to higher standards than the Chinese made units. I hope it is on par with the older Hitachi (Japan made) saws.
We will have to see about the bevel, would be surprising it they did not bevel a degree or two past 45. I am not ruling that out yet based on the pictures. At least one side should do 46/47. If not that is a slight miss that can be worked around but I agree it should have a little excess capacity - especially with the rack and pinion style setting.
As for the 57 degree mitre I think that is enough. The very few times I have been around 60/60+ degrees I have had to shim it out anyway to make the cut and the very few times that has been necessary to make repeat cuts at those angles a little jig does just as well and is very fast to make.
I don't think it will be a perfect mitre saw but it will might be close enough - all things considered - to make me stick with this one. My old benchmark is that venerable Makita LS0714 which I still really like in this class/capacity saw despite being an old model.
