I’ve been trying to figure out the difference in the “new” Metabo impact driver and the one I got a few years ago. Are they planning to release a newer model or is that the one that’s already out? My wife wants a drill/driver set so I have her my year old Metabo drill and got the mafell one (because why not). Have to give her my impact though and want to make sure I get the newer model. Help please!

Keaft, have you found a way to get the complete kit here? I'm betting it has something to do with non us spec batteries. (who's Keaft?)This is all I found last night - Rakuten - but sold out currently. I'll get around to contacting the amazon.co.jp sellers eventually.

You know it's almost impossible to believe that Makita could have chosen two new colors worse than there legacy blue.
It's not like the entire company wasn't aware for years about the vocal end user dislike for their unique blue, yet somehow they thought that 'stale burgundy' and 'spray paint gold' would be the change we were looking for. My guess is that some exec's grandmother stopped by that day during the design meeting and they had to honor their elder.

Help please! It's a rebranded Hitachi triple hammer. Much stronger and better specs than the existing Metabo impact driver. It's also ip56 rated.

You get a charger that's updated but cannot be used here in the United States. The batteries are 6.0ah and available in NA but are way overpriced compared to the 5.0ah.

Is that because of 100v or just the plug end?

Is that because of 100v or just the plug end? Not sure, nobody imports them. Just bare tools.

I'm not sure about that... they sure seem very similar in specs, look and electronic aids, but I haven't seen the Metabo being advertised as ip56 or as a triple hammer. I think they would have made a point of it.

Here is the new Metabo, if it is a triple hammer I am very happy. I would not be surprised if it was considering the Hitachi merger but I need to have a look at the manual and maybe talk to the Metabo rep. Might find evidence in the spare parts blow up? Took delivery today of the unit - of course the Impact came a few days after I finished the first decking/stair build of the season... If sure feels more responsive than the older model (which I owned very briefly) and if specs hold true it will do a great job. It is definitely smaller in footprint but I don't think it is significantly lighter. It is not heavy though. Makita/Panasonic/Hitachi all have a little better grip but since my main platform is Mafell/Metabo I am quite happy with it. If it performs on par with any of them I will be fine with that. I am not sure it is state of the art but it does feel like a very capable impact and since I don't use them very often I think it will fit the bill nicely - I think I might use it more than I think, perhaps for predrilling and I will try throttling it down and doing decking screws with it for the next decking job.

Looking at the specs for the Hitachi and the Metabo indicate that they are similar in:
Weight 1,4 No Load Speed 2900 Impact Speed 4000 nM 200
Hitachi claims IP56 and I haven't read the manual but I don't think that rating applies to the Metabo.
Metabo claims they make the motor for their Impact and in the blow up of the internal parts there is no telling if the gear unit is similar to Hitachi with a triple hammer design.
The Hitachi grip is superior to the Metabo grip. But what can a man do but wish for better design...

Same triple hammer mechanism as the Hitachi as well. Maybe different motor. I will know more after I speak with the product manager next week.

Ok, cool, that makes the machine even more of a bargain buy. Feels really good considering the triple hammer was my favorite among the other brands.
It does make sense considering the merger happened a while ago and why make a whole new design when there is a sibling shipping already.
My Mafell pusher is a former head of sales for Hitachi Sweden and they are considering bringing in Metabo, I will see if he can dig something up but I think your product manager seems to be more in the know. My guy doesn't know much about Metabo yet.
If only I could transfer the grip from the Hitachi...
