I have read that the mafell drills are rebranded metabo brushless drills. I am interested in a drill and impact driver. Are the chucks on the metabo removable as well as on the Mafell? Also has it been confirmed if the festoon centrotec work on the mafell or metabo?

I was cheaper for me to get an A10M than a CXS or Metabo a year ago. Is it brushless? I see sparks from the back.
I do not know about the larger A18M, nor about impacts, but the little one takes all the Centrotec as well all normal 1/4"bits. I think that the Centrotec is 6-mm. I would not hesitate to get the Metabo, and I would have... but there were none around.
It has the 90 degree joint, the removable chuck, and I ordered a few extra quick release adapters separately.

You want the Metabo 'BS(brushless) Quick' version of the 18v drill. That's the one with removable chuck, angle attachment etc. It's a great drill, probably the best I've ever owned. I had the current impact driver, but replaced it with the latest brushless Bosch, which is brilliant. (I don't get too concerned about battery 'platforms')

can someone tell me the differences between the Mafell A18 and the ASB18? is one a drill/hammer drill and the other a drill / impact driver?

Yes. Got it in one.
Don't know if it's already been mentioned, but only the 18v Mafell & the "bl" Metabos are truly brushless (& indeed made in the land of sauerkraut). The 10.8 range is both Asian made & brushed. Not that that's any sort of problem. Been a happy user of Metabo's iteration for some time now.

The A10M is great for $6 to #10 ga, general cabinet work, and around the house work. I bust out a Kress corded or a corded Bosch hammer drill when needed. So the A18 is a Goldilocks in the middle for manly use, however the A10M is perfect for general small work. www.dictum.com/en/tools/power-tools/drilling/704191/mafell-cordless-drill-driver-a-10-m-in-mafell-max

Same as on the equivalent metabos. So is there an impact function as well on both of them? It can be switched from impact to drilling?

It depends on your definition of impact. There is percussion drilling for masonry only on one model. Asb18 from memory. It is switchable from normal drilling to percussion.

The "400" is Metabo's brushless impact driver. It has pretty good reviews from users, but requires an accessory 1/2" square - 1/4" hex adapter of course.
Still not quite the equal of Makita, however. Makita still make the largest range of the best & most versatile rattlers on the market. Just ask any builder!
