I haven’t used my 85 in an while. Forgot just how powerful it is. Breezed through this 8/4 Osage Orange...

I "grew up" using 9" saws. An old Elu MH85 & Makita 5900. Anything smaller was considered inadequate to the task, if not downright "girlie"! How times have changed. These days 7 1/4" (185mm) saws as powerful as the older ones are the norm. The advent of cheap, capacious & lightweight compound miter saws made the need for bigger blades redundant, with their simple rapid adjustment & accuracy.
When I pick up a big saw these days it quite frankly scares the shit out of me! The big Makita is long gone, & the Elu, after spending years inverted in the relative "safety" of an alloy saw table, has now been given away to my daughter's boyfriend. That it's still going after almost 40 years (after a new armature & a few sets of brushes) is less a testament to its intrinsic quality & longevity & more about my own personal phobias & fears. Now the biggest "freehand" saw I possess is a mere 170mm!
I wonder if that marks me as sensible or "girlie"?
