One quick question if anyone can weigh in -- should I opt for the 160mm guide rail or one of the shorter guide rails? What is the best size overall for general purpose work? I know with Festool I have just about every size and regularly interchange them all, but for this purchase I am going to initially limit myself to one guide rail that I can use for most things. I can always buy another one later or if/when I add a circular saw. Thanks

Are you buying the rail just to use in conjunction with the jigsaw? It will work with festool rails as well to a degree

As a system I think the F160 is a great rail to start with. Though with the jigsaw I often find myself wishing I had something shorter, like the F80.

Here's a video I did a while back on the P1cc and Festool rails. Might be helpful.

Thanks. The rail will be just with the jigsaw initially -- I plan on expanding to one of the other circular saws in the future -- like the KSS 400 or 85 or something...maybe even the MT55. However, I ave no immediate need for this and so I am looking at using it mainly with the jigsaw now and expand later. I realize that I can use a Festool rail as a straight edge to but the base up against it, but I think I would prefer having the ridge to ride along -- seems like it is a bit more secure that way and easier to align to the cut.
I am thinking the F160 at first but I could be persuaded to go with the F110 initially. I like the shorter rail, but I am afraid it would be too short for longer rips.

The long blades are on order now. This forum really is a good resource for these tools. No joke- I ordered my first mafell tools from information on the FOG. I thought it was crazy that people there wouldn't say their product was superior, usually that mafell was in fact. I was incredibly pleasantly surprised to find out that the P1cc cuts so well with the Bosch blades (or likely any blade). I was very nervous that the best results would only be possible with the really expensive W1 blades. I have had better results with regular cheap blades than the W1 because the W1s are so thick with such an aggressive tooth pattern. I would have loved to have all this info when considering the purchase. In fact I would have made the purchase months earlier if I had seen cuts with standard blades that remained square. As I have said multiple times I thought you needed a bandsaw to get square cuts in anything thicker than 3/4"…not sure I was even getting square in 3/4 MDF before. 7 - just curious if you have had a chance to try the long blades yet? Really interested in your results with the P1CC. Thanks!

The blades haven't arrived yet. Ordered through amazon. I would guess they will arrive tomorrow. I am curious myself and will definitely find something to cut and post the results positive or negative. A bit hard to imagine a good cut with a blade so long but we shall see.

I am looking forward to this. I was trying to cut some 12/4 hard maple today with my other jigsaws and did not have the best of luck...it did OK, but had some blade skewing for part of the cut...of course the surface was convex using a guide rail and so that had something to do with it I am sure.

12/4 hard maple…that's a big test there. That's a tall order for any saw.

In the first picture you will see a lesson that I just learned. As you can see the cut off piece doesn't match the main piece. After the first cut I checked for square and it wasn't bad but not perfect. I wondered if it was because I entered the cherry on an angle (fairly steep angle) and pushed the blade to the side before it even got any bite. I might be on to something because the second cut is for all intents perfect. As you can see from the lack of blade marks there was no burning and the cut looks very clean without any sanding.
