Hmm, looking at accessories there are two parallel fences, one "regular" that runs on the side and can be flipped and one that runs underneath the base plate.
I am thinking that if I ever needed to cut thin strips, the one that goes under the base plate would be better. BUT if pieces are supported by a workbench or sawhorse the fence that goes under the base plate would also be in the way and I would have to prop it up differently.
Any thoughts on this? I ain't getting both. I am trying to figure out what advantage one would have over the other in pure practical terms.
I have used the regular parallel fence for the KSS40 a few times but not yet on very thin width strips.

Can't comment about your thin strip cutting capabilities, but the "flip fence" on my KSE 55 Vario Plus is useful as a balancing aid, especially when cutting @ 45 degrees (or any angle for that matter) freehand. I also like the way that when inverted the "step" in the fence extrusion provides a positive, secure location on both sides of the corner of sheet goods.
And yes, you're right. A "standard" fence can get in the way sometimes, esp when cutting thinner product.

I thought about getting a fence for my MT but it looks too simple to make my own. They use some machined D profile rod, but round rod in a smaller dia should work well too.
I was rationalizing that if I got the fence I could scribe lines in the aluminum extrusions’ side and have it do double duty as an MT-PA. Again I decided it was also too simple to make a (better) MT-PA if I just used the fence mounting method with some 8.5mm (fiberglass) rod. (you can use up to ⅜” / 9.5mm round rod but there’s some plastic on the saw that would need to be slightly sanded on the back mount if you did). A piece of clear polycarb laying on material with scribed lines on the bottom clips onto the rods. Doubt that making a fence is that much more trouble.

Leaving the battery in the kss50 saw drains the battery. Tested this on two different batteries. Both drained.

That's extremely bad news! Extremely disturbing. A bit of a production oversight, maybe. Haven't had a tool do that for me since the Bosch ghetto blaster/charger. Could it be the motion activated lights?
If the discharge is allowed to be "exhaustive" it'll f#¥k the battery!

on some of my tools there is a halfway click on batt insertion that holds the batt secure but requires an additional push & click to engage for use.
anything like that on the 50?

Can't be the motion light. It was stationary the whole time it discharged. Twice!

So how long did it take to discharge?

That makes sense. It would take literally months for a couple of puny LEDs to drain 6.3 or 7.0 AH. Seems like there's summat amiss with the electronics package. Disturbingly (it's only mere supposition or conjecture here) if there's a resistive load across the battery, one possible result could be heat: i.e. the risk (albeit remote) of fire! Take those batteries out!
Maybe it should be checked over. Bummer.

So how long did it take to discharge? About 4 days

I first thought it might be the Metabo battery. I put the Mafell battery in and got the same result.

Does that happen on your KSS40 too?

well belated congratulations to those who got the 50,very disappointing news with regard to the dust bag but the news that the battery drains when left in the saw really takes the biscuit!,if memory serves didn't festools cordless ts55 have a similar issue?,i agree that going through Tobias is the best way to get answers,he was able to phone mafell and get a couple of things sorted for me in the past.I was on the verge of ordering the 50 but issues like these make you step back and reconsider.
