I was talking about locking/quick disconnect power cords in another thread and it reminded me of these. I bought these cord end locks for my job site vacuums and carry them in my tool bag. (I put snap ends on the keys to snap to my veto bag so I can always find them). I can't tell you how often I've left for lunch or to get materials, leaving vacuum behind, and come back to catch clients sucking up pounds of shit: cat litter, wet substances, vacuuming their garages, lawn leaves, other contractors messes etc. up with my vacuum. Because of course a contractors vacuum in this magical black hole that is perfect to make all these things disappear and I would want them to use it. Sometimes you don't catch them in the act but instead go to pick up the vacuum later and it's now 10 pounds heavier. These work great:

Yes, you have to. I have a lot of capricious clients, I used to get angry until I realized that they don't care if I bill them extra just as long as I let them run around like little spoiled children facilitating their delusions.
I used to say - "Are you ******* retarded ?!". Now I just think to myself ("Yes. Yes they are actually ******* retarded"). "You want me to build what ?" "On top of that ?" - "Brilliant! lets get started."

Well, there you go! I'd always thought an unsupervised vac. instantly & miraculously became communal property. Or any other constituent of the tradies' toolkit for that matter!
Isn't it the same as when an unsupervised builder's rubbish skip becomes the whole street's/block's/community's oh so convenient repository of unwelcome & unwanted detritis the minute his back is turned?
I always thought it was one of those unwritten laws of the jungle....

They were more obscure, and cheaper, when I first found them but it looks like everyone from Grainger to Amazon has them now.
Search using RoRiDe StoPower or just StoPower. On the Amazon page I noticed that MasterLock has one too (different design).
They are also useful for peace of mind when you're setup on site where young people are active and you need to leave unforgiving power tools unattended for a while. You don't use them that often but when you want one they are nice to have.

The fact that they are available, in the USA I could see some enterprising attorney get hyper should a client's child get curious in a unattended workplace environment with other tools then a vac.

I'd like to find some of these for UK 3-pin plugs, although UK plug prongs/pins don't have holes drilled in them, so it would probably need to be something that encompasses the entire plug head.

Electrical wholesalers will have lockout casings available with, as you suggested, an encompassing box & padlock for your male ends.

Oddly the north american version is cheaper from the U.K. even with shipping LinkThen there's the lock box style mentioned Link though they look enormous to carry around. (maybe just a single thick wall short steel tube thats tapped to accept an allen set screw to slip over one prong. ?) I think the ones I have don't rely on holes in blades like those locking extension cords, rather they have two nylon balls that perform a chinese finger pull once key is turned Iirc. Thought they were poor quality when I first got em but they've proven to be strong.
