(Just a stupid pencil sharpener in a box) One of the constant minor annoyances to me on job sites is having to sharpen a pencil. Every time I grab a razor to sharpen the tip I wish I had my old 120v electric desk sharpener in front of me. I don’t know why I didn’t do this years ago but I bought 3 battery operated sharpeners off of Amazon and stuck one of them in the saw case. (the other two are for the truck & the bench). What I liked about these was that they let you select the tip you want from flat to sharp - and they run off of either batteries, a USB plug, or 110/120v (via the supplied usb cord plug into the supplied 110/120v to 6v adapter). If you don’t like using batteries, or they’re dead, you just plug into the usb jack on your vehicle dashboard. You can also run it off of a cell phone back-up battery pack (no less than 2000mAh rated). Regular non rechargeable batteries seem to be lasting pretty well so far, haven’t tried them with rechargeable’s yet. Instead of using velcro to mount it in box I used that hard plastic version. I like this stuff for sticking to plastics because the adhesive used is different than velcro uses and it holds ideally to plastic without delaminating. It can be pulled off too without using any solvent or leaving any adhesive behind stuck to plastic. I did test this on the mafell container, pulling one back off after it had been on a day. Using only two small squares the sharpener pulls off with a satisfying ‘clack’ that sounds just like you cracked the side of your case and then ’snaps’ back in place instead of how you rip with velcro. Sharpener location doesn’t interfere with taking anything out or putting anything back in container. The 110/120v adapter is so small I wedged it & the usb cord under the containers blow molded saw support in between the recesses should I ever need them. (little red zip tie is to pull up a base to retrieve short pencils from the corner channel.)

What does the "flat" setting look like on a round pencil?

flattened 'tip'. ( 'flat' is a special term that only those of us in the 'pencil-sharpener-inside-a-box-festooning-guild' use. )

I realize you may have to kill me if you tell me, but why would you want a "non-sharp" pencil? Especially the REALLY non-sharp one?

You’ve been in the shop too long.
Where ever a newly sharpened tip is going to immediately break: Sometimes you need to mark on rough surfaces, sketch for a client, mark off for others in a thicker line so it’s visible, take pictures of pencils and post them on the amazing interwebnet, mark a fine cut-line visible in bad lighting and cut to one side of it, make a supplies list, I don’t know - whatever us hairless monkeys do with pencils.

Just some weird info.
There's Velcro, and then there's industrial Velcro with stronger attachment and stronger adhesives.
The mushroom product is 3Ms Dual Lock, which also comes in strengths and adhesive versions. This stuff has really strong versions and hold military grade protection panels on vehicles. Pry off a damaged panel and replace with a new one real quick.
That's a good idea Kraftt.

No where on the packaging does it state it's product name (seriously) just 'Scotch'. I always have to explain what I'm looking for at the store and it's hit or miss finding the stuff.

Can't say that they will know the name either. There are a number of versions, I'll show the Amazon site for example. On edit the second picture added was my work situation of vehicle testing. The drivers test equipment need to be visible but retained in an high deceleration accident environment so the driver would not be injured by equipment getting thrown around. Dual Lock provided that security on a few unfortunate situations. So if you need something stuck in place securely, but removable or replaced in a new orientation, Dual Lock gets it done. I believe it's rated for 1,000 connections. But if it's a painted surface, the paint adhesion better be good and eventual removal done with care. Automotive body paint worked and the DL removed fine. Very cool (I thought you were searching for tornados)
Yes, the adhesive really does release well off of most stable surfaces - with work - (love 3M product quality). I think the adhesive must be in the same family as those releasable wall hooks where the consumer stretches the 'gum' and it de-bonds.
I wasn't aware of any stronger grade than what I showed, but now you got me thinking.

Considering what it is, you can adjust the holding force by how many square (in/mm) you use. Remembering your US based, McMaster is a really good source for variations on the theme.

Yep, and Mouser and Ali-Express. More and more it's online and not the hardware store.

I found out what the "unsharp" sharpening mode is for - colored pencils, which are more crumbly than graphite pencils and need a more robust point to survive. Thanks, Japanese Stationery Website!

I believe this is because they incorporate a higher proportion of clay in the 'lead' component of the pencil than do vanilla graphite pencils, but even the latter have a surprising amount of clay, rather than being 'pure graphite'

I won't tell if you don't, but it may cost you... ;-)
