well I have bit the bullet and bought the kss40 'pure' version(minus batteries, charger and flexi-rail),it came today but I was disappointed to find the illustrated card on the inside of the lid busted and a knib on the foam insert that limits the downward travel of the saw body cracked and about to come off, after inserting a battery and attempting to close the lid it was apparent that both the above issues were caused by someone pushing down on the lid trying to close the systainer, the saw with battery attached seems to be impeding the closure of the lid,now the photo on the card seems to show that the battery can be/is attached to the saw in normal storage, so my question is,have other owners found difficulty closing the lid with the battery attached?,(the saw is fully down as far as it will travel in the systainer and of course is fully plunged)

Something is not sitting right in your box. I never remove the battery on mine. Check to see if more foam is damaged along where the saw makes contact

When I got mine the same damage to card and sponge bit was a bit deformed. As for closing it, alot of the time i forgot to make sure it was plunged down fully and the rail is in properly, (this is the main problem for me) I do find locking it is a pain as the flexi rail pushes the flimsy front wall of the systainer out so it doesn't close properly. I have to push it in to close it. Also check the flexi rail is in the right position.

Yeah, when I have trouble closing the lid it's usually because I didn't plunge the saw all the way, or it isn't pushed far enough froward on the track. I always leave the battery on. Funny that you're having trouble without the flexi rail. It is a tight fit, but overall not a big hassle once I got used to it.
Maybe pull out the bottom insert and make sure that is seated properly in the box. Mine was shipped with a thick piece of black rubber that was supposed to be stuck to the side of the case, presumably as a bumper for the end of the crosscut rail. That rubber piece was poorly adhered on mine, and it kept coming loose and lodging itself in troublesome places. I finally threw it out, no troubles since then.

thanks for the replies guy's,i had no problem with the flexi-rail as it did not come with this 'pure' version,i double checked again this morning and everything is correct, saw fully plunged and pushed down as far as possible, the saw can go no further, the teeth of the blade can be seen in contact with the insert, the battery can be seen protruding about 1/4- 3/8" above the top of the systainer, this is what has caused the busted card, the lid will close but has to be pushed down, there is no way around this that I can see,i understand the desire to keep the whole set-up as compact as possible but perhaps things would be less cramped if it came in a t-loc 5.

Can someone in North America that got one of these with the charger see if it can work on 120 v if changing the plug or is it 240 v only? I have access to 240 no problem, but obviously 120 would be easier. Thanks

I'm not in NA, but pretty sure you can't just change the plug... you could just get hold of the 120v Metabo charger ASC 30-36. The latest Metabo batts are better than current Mafell 'rebranded' offerings too.

Ive not tried with mine as I already had a metabo charger. Mine is in the shop but I can take a look if you like. I agree that buying a bare 40, then getting a metabo charger package with some 6.2 LiHD batts might be best

Seem normal. Just like mine and same area with the card damage. I personally think that was done by the store i bought it from, sneeking a peek, as they had no idea that saw existed untill it arrived at the store. Such is Mafells PR! Attachments:

Just bought a second hand kss40 18v. When I spin the blade by hand it makes a clicking noise in both directions. Seems to work ok, just wondering if this is normal?
