Hi Kraftt, I am happy with the price of the nailers. Its the import tax that is going to make the purchase of the 18 gauge and 23 gauge a little more expensive. GC1850 runs at additional $109.15 I will have a chat with Rutlands on Monday and post the results up for the other UK folk interested in the green beasts. Cheers Matt p.s. Friend who lived in Ventura has come back to reside in UK for a couple of years, which gets rid of one of the easy options. -------------- "Postage: US $37.75 (approx. £26.92) International Priority Shipping to United Kingdom | See details Item location: Glendale, California, United States Posts to: United States and many other countries | See details Import charges: US $109.15 (amount confirmed at checkout) ) ----------------------- $109 ! that blows. What do they think, that Grex is going to disrupt the world economy. (In my mind I looked at all my 18ga guns I don't want anymore and 'rationalized' their sale against the purchase)

But there is nothing I am aware of. Heavier import fee than some brands. Shall report back with info from Rutland, let’s see if we can’t expand their Grex product line up a little.

$440 x 3.5% UK Customs Duty = $15.40
($440 product + $37.75 Shipping and Insurance + $15.40 Duty) x 20% EU vat = $98.63
$98.63 + $15.40 = $114.03
I'd take the $109.15 and buy a pint with the savings.

I rarely drink, and gave up smoking 9 years ago. Money that was spent on those vices has found its way into tools I tried calling Rutlands today. Looked up the phone number on their website. ( This is when I show my age. I remember placing orders with Rutlands, over the phone, in my younger years ) My eyesight must be failing, could not see the phone number to call them and talk with someone. I have sent an email instead. I shall report back any information that comes my way. Cheers Matt p.s. I know I can do the import if necessary option. Just hoping to nail a cost from an EU supplier to start.

I just took a quick look on their website 'Contact Us', and I can't see a phone number anywhere, either, which almost makes me wonder if it's a one-man-operation.
I know they've been going for ages, but it does seem odd not to have a human being available to discuss queries.

Q. Can I contact you by telephone?
A. No.... We have experts on hand to respond to your emails in less than 30 minutes during the working day.
Email us at customerservices@rutlands.co.uk.
Oh my.
Anyway, yeah, I'm with mattuk. Except I took it a step further, I cut out the women. Coincidentally, dealing with them and their alcohol problems put me off of drinking for life. lol.

Well I got away with it. It came in a used Microsoft cardboard box (nothing wrong with recycling I guess). The supplied shrink wrapped batteries were DOA so first shot misfired. Put brand name batts in and it was good to go. ( or maybe the very first gas charge always does that ??) Gun & inside case is pristine, outer case had some dust on it. Does not look fired but if someone opened it then it must have been tested though I saw no scuffs inside fuel cell compartment. My guess is it may have been a demo? But again just no signs of tip burnishing etc. All manuals, sealed. Checks out delivered in 2017. Parts up to date. Sold to a back east hardware store. Grex helped me track down name & calling tomorrow to make sure it didn’t walk away on it’s own one day. Didn’t read anything, just started firing like a lunatic - I’m thrilled with weight / performance. Handle being so far back is a total non issue. Tested how long you can depress tip and still fire, got bored counting “one one thousand, two one thous…” after the 14th nail because that was also 14 seconds. If you’re not going to shoot a nail after 14 seconds chances are you died. Storage case is thin and holds plenty of supplies. Belt hook is reversible for lefties or dual gun slingers. Don’t know what else to say, it’s comfortable, tip depresses easily... the Ghost has good taste in tools.

The button that opens the cartridge door is easily depressed. However once you get it figured out it's a none issue. Lefties are kings at adapting anyway.

Kraftt, thanks for the detailed review. Want to purchase one even more now. I sent a mail last night to Rutlands. By the time I had a chance to look at email this morning I had received a reply -------------------- Dear Matt Thank you for your email and we are happy that you are happy with your previous purchase. Unfortunately we will not be adding a Grex cordless pinner, not this year at least. Many thanks Harry Loughton ------------------------------ So Rutlands wont have for the next 7 months or so. For the folk living in sunnier climes. Where about have you purchased your Grex from ? ps. I anyone UK guys/girls are reading this post and fancy a GC1850 let me know. It wont be the first time I have organised a group buy and may save a little on shipping. Cheers Matt

That’s good to know, I need to switch hands often during the day shooting. What was your workaround? Being conscious of it or perhaps sticking a bumper in recess next to pin? I guess wearing gloves makes the pin even easier to depress by accident left handed. --------------------------------------------------------- The gun balances itself on three points when placing down on a flat surface right handed. One point is the plastic housing around the recessed screw near the G in Grex sticker, the next is the abs plastic nub that protects the cassette door release from being unintentionally depressed, and the other is the tip of the metal belt hook. To protect pre-finished floors etc I think I will add a small piece of inner-melt / dual-wall heat shrink around the tip of the metal belt hook. While hot I’ll pinch it together and it will lock around hook tip, then trim it to round off shape.

Cheers Matt Seems like the biggest hurdle, for a single purchase, is shipping discreetly to avoid import duties. You mentioned that if your friend was still in the states that would have made things simpler. I'm not offering (because something always goes wrong) but how would that have worked? A plain box with a note inside, just in case, saying "we've repaired your gun/modified your gun" / "Matt, you left your gun here when you went back to the U.K. - here it is" etc. ? Grex's site lists a lot of local dealers, might be worth blasting a bunch of them to see if you can get one to play along? These things sit on shelves due to price & obscurity so they might be willing if it means they finally get to move stock.

Here's the shrunk belt hook. Dawned on me that if I covered entire hook I could also stop the eventual shredding of pants pockets (trying to hook onto belt while you're focus is occupied means I always just hook it into jeans pocket and the metal edges shred material). Think I will do this to all my tool hooks, drills etc.

Some clarifications:
My gun didn’t misfire first time, it was operator error. On page 20 of the manual it clearly tells you that whenever you remove and then reinstall a fuel cell cartridge you need to prime the gun by depressing tip against a work piece, without firing, 3 times. Then you’re good to go. Supplied batteries that I claimed were dead were prob fine, but that single first pump primed the plumbing and the next shot, with new batteries, worked. It’s like turning off the gas to an appliance, replacing the supply flex line, and then expecting appliance to light immediately. It can’t until the air has been evacuated in the line by incoming gas. Then what happens if you leave the fuel cell in the gun but don’t use it for a few days…do you need to prime again? No, it will fire just fine without priming since fuel cell was not removed, nothing dissipated. In fact they’ve tested this with guns sitting days and then picking it up to fire a 2” brad, countersunk into 2” red oak, on the first shot. The recommended limit of approx 5 days of inactivity before you should remove fuel cell from handle is because the cell is designed to be disposable and not built to have it’s valve seal remain open indefinitely. But it’s just a conservative rule of thumb suggested by the mfg. so that everybody has a good time. Feedback is that most users leave cells in for weeks of more. Just means there’s now a small chance cell could start to slowly empty over time thats all.
I previously mentioned that Grex was coming out with the 21 cordless next then the 23. But it seems now that it is the 23 first and some testing begins in a few weeks. That doesn’t mean that there’s any defined schedule for a release date, only that they’re hard at work.
Grex says they would need a fairly large shipment to consider Europe and have no future plans. Fuel cells, filled in the US, would still have to go by boat and they consider that one of the larger issues.
fwiw- the ‘hardware store back east’ turned out to be Richelieu. 70 locations throughout Canada & US. Richelieu corporate says they're not set up to track serial numbers etc., told me to just enjoy the gun. Roger that.
