interesting, Though I shudder to think about the size of vibrator required for some of the large timbers the guys on this forum frequently work with.

We have a friction welder (? not sure what it's really called) at the school where I work. It's Swedish. It can weld really thin pieces of metal together by basically rubbing the joint with a spinning tool under tremendous pressure. No gas, no fumes, no arc, no distortion. It's amazing to watch working.
