Last week I had the honour of being a Health andSafety Rep (HSP ) under the Australia Comcare. This is about the same as OSHA in the US and similar to (adopted from) British models. I am not sure where Electrical mods go. If it is in the companies Policies and Procedures, or in codes or electrical "best practices", then all is well. In any case I've been busy today at home: A 13' (4m) cord for the vacuum, and a 50' one for further afield. Then a couple more 13' ones for extra for another deal (back left), and a couple of 4' ones for the back yard to some conduit to carry the power in pipes in the cement around a pool (not shown). I will probably do a US 220 and Eu 230v as well, and a couple of extension cords with neutrix on each end. "old mate" sent some black 2-wire Carolpreen for the tool pigtails. The jig saw was not looking easy, so I just cut the OEM cord. I used some yellow 3 "Carol Super" SJOOW wire for the long cords and the ground means I can use it with other things, like to a power strip if I chose to, or Eu, Au, or US220 female plug.

Randal, can you help me out with names and part numbers etc for the connectors and cord? And where would be the best place for me to order from?

Thanks mate. Do Markertek ship directly to Aus?

If the P1cc is "not looking easy," mate, send me a message. As memory serves, it was a bit trickier than the others, but I'll do whatever it takes to help you through it...action speaks louder than words, so I think you should already know that I'm here to help.

Cheers Red - but I was not overly fussed, and just clipped the cord back and threw the Neutrik on it. For a 700W saw at 220 that is <4 Amps, so any size would work. One already gets a huge advantage in 230v versus 110v.
I think I'l order the extra Neutrik on the morrow. The boss had me doing tip-runs today.

Of course, it's up to you, mate...and you're right about your service -- albeit inherently dangerous, 230/240VAC is definitely a superior power source...and that's why I always opt for the European models.

220v is used world wide. I do not think it is too much more dangerous than 110v. Yeah the current doubles,.. More troubling is the 50-Hz. But either one can kill you, so it is like comparing a head on at 50 versus 100.
Really it is a change from a Eu plug to an Aussy plug with a Nuetrik in the middle, and they are NEC, UL etc approved.

Sorry, mate, but we'll have to agree to disagree on this topic. Although I've heard and read about it happening, I've never actually known anyone who was seriously injured via 110VAC service. When it comes to 240VAC service, on the other hand, I personally know more than one trained electrical tech who's been hospitalized. Take it from a retired electrical engineer: generally speaking -- the higher the voltage, the higher the risk. Why do you think I try to help so many people with their electrical issues?

@red I thought you were just a nice guy ~25 years ago Mitch was in an attic of a new house and the sparky wired it bad. He was on the drill for a 30 seconds to minute. They could not revive him. The belief is that 110v is safer, which it is, but it is not a lot safer. Both 110v/60-Hz and 220v/50-Hz will work you over.

@red I thought you were just a nice guy Well, that certainly helps, as well.
Was Mitch someone close to you, Holmz?

Was Mitch someone close to you, Holmz? An acquaintance from skiing, so not a close friend, but one of the better ski bums.
