Tom- Is the metabo vac made of the same/similar hard plastic as the festool CT vacs?
I always feel a bit nervous when I have a systainer mounted to the top covering the proper handle and I pick the vac up by the cord wrap and the thin plastic at the front of the hose garage to put it away. I also feel wierd about lifting the whole unit by the attached systainer since that is just attached by the two green plastic sliders. An employee broke my midi hose garage. I continue to pick up my 26 & 36 by the plastic and attached systainer but it feels odd, especially when the bag is full of dust so the vac is quite heavy.

I continue to pick up my 26 & 36 by the plastic and attached systainer but it feels odd, especially when the bag is full of dust so the vac is quite heavy. Hi 7, I apologize for the delay in responding to you! Compared to the Festool CT vacs (particularly the Hose Garage), my perception is that the Metabo ASR 35 ACP (Starmix) plastic is more flexible, particularly in cold weather. As shown in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErnZArzwTzM), the bottom container is of a double-wall construction. I have a small crack in the bottom, center front of my vac where it fell out of the van, but it's a small crack (<1"), this type of fall has snapped pieces off my CT vacs in the past. The top of the vac is made out of this same relatively flexible plastic material. Regarding transport, I agree that it can feel awkward to carry our vacuums around by anything other than the built-in handle. My CT-26 and ASR 35 ACP can get heavy when they're nearly full, and while I'm sure that they can "technically" be carried by an attached Systainer, I generally just find it to be an awkward proposition, and prefer to carry the vacs by their own handle. For my CT-MIDI, I usually have a Sys 1 (loaded with cleaning attachments and nozzles) clipped to the top. For the older style MIDI tops (with the 4 latches), I generally felt comfortable carrying the vac by a single attached systainer. I recently "upgraded" to the newer style, T-Loc hose garage for my MIDI, and while I appreciate the increased speed of the T-Loc, I've found that the attached Systainer can sometimes come unclipped from the MIDI (!!!), specifically one or both of the rear dovetailed "feet". For that reason, I always transport the assembly using the four tabs to attach the Systainer, and only use the T-Loc feature when the MIDI is in the working area.

Thanks for the reply. I need to send my midi in for an electrical problem...tool almost never comes on when set to auto. I also happen to have a badly cracked hose garage on it so I'll look into replacing it with the T-loc style garage while I am at it.

Perhaps more importantly, I came across websites listing the unit as "Discontinued" and no longer available to order. This did not make any sense to me since the unit was only introduced by Metabo last year - then I came across a current Starmix promotion in Germany where they listed a 1600W ARDL 1635 EWSR model, so perhaps there is a new rev coming, even for the rebadged models. ... So I am pretty content and looking forward to good, long service from my CT Midi. If Starmix does bring out the 1600W 1635 AND establish proper US distribution and service, they would be on my list to consider for my next vac. I hope this long dissertation is helpful to someone in the same search. Thanks for the research, and to Tom Gensmer as well. But now you're making me re-think pulling the trigger on the ASR 35 ACP. I found this on their Facebook page: Metabo USA is going to be at the World of Concrete in 3 days, I guess I'll wait until then. Anyone going to the show and can ask the rep on site? Then again, I didn't see any mention come out of BAU 2015, so I assume not this year, if at all (especially for 110v folks). Here's a pic from their booth at the show:

Me too!
I'm really impressed with the Metabo ASR 35. I used it all day with the MT 55 cc - hardly any dust and clean up was minimal.
It is not a quiet machine by any means. I used ear defenders even when sanding, although my ears do have some damage already from drumming.
This bohnfix drill shroud will be a welcome accessory for the vac.

Need to get myself one of these I have a Festool-branded unit and really like it. There is a user on the FOG who regularly sells NAINA items, plus there are many e-bay sellers who will ship to North America. Yeah, LOVE my Metabo ASR-35!! Aside from the filter cleaning I don't perceive it as any louder than my CT-26.

I'm still debating whether to pickup the ASR35, wait for a possible 1600W one (unlikely?), or pick up a Bosch 50 liter one. Seems like you can pickup the gen 1 Bosch for $300-400 recon/used, and that should fit the Mafell Systainer dock with no problem. www.cpotools.com/factory-reconditioned-bosch-3931a-pb-rt-airsweep-120v-13-gallon-wet-dry-vacuum-cleaner/bshr3931a-pb-rt,default,pd.html Hmm, link seems to hate me. Copy and paste, or search for bosch vacuum on CPO Tools, it's listed at $389...The thing holding me back though is how tall it is, I think I'd rather have the shorter one and have a little more room in my truck.

Still loving my Metabo ASR 35 ACP HEPA vac. I've primarily been using the PVC bags, it costs more than just dumping the bin into a garbage bag, but much cleaner which makes it work it to me. When funds allow I plan on purchasing a second Metabo/Starmix vac. At 1400 watts, the current model seems to have plenty of draw for my needs, besides at 11 amps I get to set the power setting "to 11".

Hi Mafellites,
Can anyone confirm for certain what the differences are between the 1600W Starmix iPulse and the current 1400W Metabo ASR 35? It was said a few pages back that the ASR 35 does not have real-time monitoring of the filters' condition? I presume this means it only cleans them at fixed timed intervals?
According to the Metabo ASR 35 PDF manual I've had a quick look at from the Metabo website, the ASR 35 has "automatic filter cleaning when you switch on the device and when a specific negative pressure value is reached." This sounds to me like the filters are monitored in real-time, like the current iPulse. I'm confused...!? Is the ASR 35 just 200 watts less powerful, but is otherwise the exact same vacuum as the latest/newest iPulse?
I'm very interested in the Starmix vacuums, but sourcing one will be impossible. The Metabo ASR 35 on the other hand, will be easy.
Thanks everyone.

No local dealers for Starmix. Metabo dealers are plentiful.

No local dealers for Starmix. Metabo dealers are plentiful. I thought so... Not impossible, just perhaps impractical. Or only practical if one plans ahead. Have you costed getting one shipped in? Is there an advantage over the Metabo in function or cost?
