Has anybody used one of these? I bought one on a late night amazon binge two nights ago. Completely un-researched which isn't like me... Any favorite abranet grits? I got the variety back to see if I like it. Untitled by thedude306, on Flickr

I've got one and I like it. I don't do a pile of hand sanding but it didn't make sense to capture nearly all the dust with my Festool sanders and then make a mess at the end with a little bit of hand sanding, so I bought one.
I hook the hand sander up to my CT36 and turn the suction to the lowest setting, it works like a charm. The hose is a bit of a nuisance but I prefer dealing with the hose instead of the airborne dust.
I use 120 for breaking edges, 180 for final sanding with the grain and sometimes I use it with 320 between coats of finish.

That is the thought process I went down. I don't hand sand a bunch but with the advent of all this DC in my shop it just seemed logical.
I honestly can't believe how much better/cleaner the shop is with DC on all tools. I just need to get it better on the TS and axial glide.
I bought the skinnier hose hoping it helps with the nuisance factor over the 35mm hoses I have.

Never used one, but they're a fantastic idea. Be really interested in your thoughts, once you've given it a run.

I have the 6" sander but i use it manly for compound, drywall and paint knock-down. There was a guy on e-bay selling boxes of 240, which i use on the festool hard palm sander to knock down paint and it works fairly well; should be even better with dc.

Well I used it to nock the edges off my drawer and tool caddy for my bench tonight. So far this thing is great. The DC is sweet. I grabbed my regular 5" sander just to see the difference and it made a mess. With this you wouldn't of known I was sanding on my bench. A little clumsy with the hose but I REALLY like it. You do have to be careful not to catch an edge or the fabric tears.
All in all a good purchase. I am glad I got the smaller hose. And you definitely need some suction control, the little opening on the sander is not enough to not have the pad stick. I had the bosch vac turned down and put the bosch hose in line with it's setting all the way open.
I gave the pad a quick blow with the air hose when I was done and it got rid of any residue in the abranet.
I will wait until finishing to give it my final approval but so far it's a winner.

My friend/ employee has one. He does a lot of finishing with a 5 stage turbine HVLP. He likes it mainly for the between coats sanding. It is also really good for a drywall patch or two iin a finished house. I have been meaning to pick one up but his lives in my shop anyway.
I also have a couple of the foam hand sanders that fit the round disks- both 5 & 6". No dust collection but its nice to be able to steal paper from the orbital collection of paper for little hand sanding tasks.

I got youngest daughter some hand blocks and a DEOS, and then some rolls of the 70-mm wide in a few grits.
She is impressed that the sander doesn't make her fingers numb, and that the dust is sucked up.
Saying something like, "Sanding is almost fun now."

I suspect that Mirka actually makes these for Festool too! There's a fairly useful Mirka version that has some profiled bases (3 I think, or 2 + a standard flat one) which could be pretty useful.
But their pad sizes are an absolute PITA. Their "roundie" seems good, even potentially excellent - until you come up against the glass on a traditional multi-pane window stile. Then it's plain awful. Great for sanding right-angles, though.
Nevertheless, these Mirka/Festool hand-pads are the absolute duck's guts for rapid, clean & convenient hand sanding. They actually perform the task fuss-free & rapidly just as Festool promised but abysmally failed to deliver with their terrible LS130 Duplex linear sander. Their nicely overmoulded handle, ultra lightweight & sharp but safe angular edges & wide range of sizes are just brilliant. Extraction using mesh in particular is also superb.
I also have a 80 x 130 mm Mirka DEOS orbital, which is the same sized pads/papers/mesh as the F/tool 130, RS 400 & a swag of alternatives from Bosch, Rupes, Milwaukee et. al. Yet Mirka DOESN'T market a hand block in this size! Weird or what? Especially considering that they DO make one in this size FOR FESTOOL TO SELL AS THEIR OWN!
Sometimes marketing departments are stupid. Mirka make the software (Abranet mesh & a swag of different papers) in 80 x 133, but not (apart from their DEOS) the hardware! So I have Festool's overpriced version instead.
