This topic has been touched on in a few other threads, but for ease of searching I wanted to create a discussion dedicated to the conversation about dust collection and the Erika saws.
Many Erika owners have made comments suggesting that the Erika has exemplary dust control, whether used with a dust collecting vacuum or the Mafell chip collecting Cleanbox.
If the Cleanbox is effective, it occurs to me that this frees up a dust extractor for other duties, plus it places a lower load on the electrical circuit, important when you consider that the Erika 70 and 85 draw upwards of 2200 watts, and on some older homes the combination of these high powered motors and a dust extractor could trip circuit breakers.
Soo.... what have your experiences been? Of course, I don't think any reasonable tradesperson expects "100%" dust extraction from any tool, but what is the difference between the Cleanbox and hooking the saw up to a dust extractor? Are we talking about the difference between 85% and 95%? Is there a significant difference?
When using a dust extractor, is a 36mm hose sufficient?
Another consideration is, does the dust extraction perform differently depending on whether you are mostly ripping or crosscutting? Would you use the Cleanbox more for one application, but a dust extractor for another?
About the Cleanbox, is it reusable? How durable is it? I see two part numbers for it, the 203402 "Chip Collecting System Cleanbox" for ~$60, and the 203575 "Chip Collecting Cardboard Box Cleanbox (5 Pieces)" for ~$65. What is the difference between these? Any good photos of the Cleanbox? What is the capacity?
Thanks guys, it sounds like we have a few members looking forward to Erika purchases in 2015, hopefully this will help us make informed purchasing decisions.
