Cool. Thanks, Ghostfist. Now just need to decide on which way to go. I worked out the cost and it is not too far off as one version allows for different configurations from the other version.

When I was picking up my saw and blades today I noticed that they had a kss80 sitting on the shelf do had a closer look. Not sure if you where asking if the track had positive stops at certain angles or something else. The track goes from 60 to 50 and has indents at 0 22.5, 45, and 60. For the size and weight it don't feel too bad. Maybe wouldn't want to swing it over my head all day, but on a set of saw horses could use all day I recon. Something to look at next year

Wow! As others have said great info!
I'm curious about the base of your saw moving back and forth though? I never noticed that on my KSS and just double checked, there is no movement on mine. As I understood it, the K85 and KSS80 are identical except for the added grooves machined into the saw base. Did you ever talk to the dealer about this?

New point of reference , my kss80 has the same movement in the baseplate as muuiska .Has no effect on cutting , maybe on a plunge cut .This kss80 saw has a manufacture year of 2015 .
Absolute beast of a saw........BCI ,TJI,LVL,Glulam and solid beams no problem .

It is a super saw for sure...nothing slows it down. I love using it...just heavy after all day of swinging it around...not overly heavy, can be tiring though.

Between the On The Rail thread I posted and this one, I'm more than a little confused. Although this thread clearly indicates some sort of a "choice struggle," didn't you end up purchasing the KSS80Ec/370, Scot?
As for all of this text about the benefits of using one saw as a cross-cutter and the other as a "long-cut" ripsaw, I'm not getting that either. I confirmed right here on the MUF -- before purchasing the KSS80Ec/370 system -- that the specifications of the K85Ec are the same...is this not so?
I have now used our KSS80Ec/370 for [repeated] long runs on the Mafell guide rails and, once again, I'm happy to report that we have had no (0) negative issues. If this "play" that's being mentioned herein has been experienced by others, I'm very sorry to read it. Our saw, on the other hand, is a bona fide beast On The Rail and, specifically, has cut ON THE LINE each and every time.
I have no reason to doubt that the K85Ec is a fine saw, but it isn't set up for efficient repeated cross-cutting and it should behave the same as the KSS80Ec saw on Mafell guide rails, so why are some posts making it seem like the KSS80Ec/370 is anything less than a very nicely upgraded version of the K85Ec?
I'm here to to learn, so please educate me...

I'm here to to learn, so please educate me... Yes, I have the 80 just like yours. I think my comment above was in response to Joe's post. When I originally was deciding between the two I kept going back and forth as I like the case of the 85 and the cross-cut of the 80. I ended up going with the 80 since it is the same machine as the 85 with the benefit of cross-cutting, except for the higher price. I got a Bosch L-Boxx 4 for storage and it has worked out great. Love the saw.
