Not sure what if anything changed but my sliding rail clamps have become incredibly tough to move when they never were before. Rails have never been dropped nor have the clamps and the movement is restricted any place on the rail. I am completely baffled.

Sorry to hear that. I'm guessing the clamps got bent. Maybe get a new clamp or new rail? if the new clamp works with your old rails then you know it's the old clamps. If the old clamps work with a new rail it's the old rails.

I had this happen to me and I was baffled. Turned out to be a tiny metal burr from scraping on something. Filed it down and was golden again.
I also found that sliding the clamps by pushing as close to the rail helps a lot; any "lever" action on the clamp arm and they lock up tight.
