Really interesting video. The Swiss apprenticeship system sounds similar to the one we have down here in Aus.

Great video. Switzerland, Germany and Austria really lead the way in timber construction - much more 'engineering' with wood than UK / US etc., - shows in the tools they produce.
I can certainly relate to the comments in the way 'trades' are viewed / treated... certainly here in France, there is not much respect, but there is also a lot of 'don't give a shit' and 'that'll do' attitude from the trades too... but then the old English saying is 'pay peanuts, get monkeys'...

There are Master Carpenters, but there are Master Flippers & Master Profit Extractors running the show. A formal trade school specific education built on fundamentals is great (if only to weed out the lackluster) but it’s still a cyanoacrylate & pocket hole kind of world. The resources, more than ever, are there if you wish to learn but the demand for the type of work to give those skills scope is lacking.
