So I've already tried the thin black rubber splinter guard instead of the supplied red plastic one, it didn't last long.
Lately I've found the rail trying to slip when doing angle cuts, the non-slip strip are losing the clear non-slip coating - not seen these for sale to replace.
So I stripped everything off the back and cleaned up with acetone. Replaced the non-slip with some Festool foam from the FS rails, replaced the anti-splinter strip with the black rubber one from Makita (I use this on all my Festool rails so buy it in 5m rolls).
The finished result is slightly thicker, but doesn't seem to affect use, bevel cuts seem to be on the splinter strip.
