Love it! Haven't been posting much as I've been building a castle outside in the slush and freezing cold for the last 14 days straight. I'm reading, but tired.

If you move up to about the 4:00 mark on the video -- the one linked in the original post -- you'll see the results of some very fine scarf joinery. Watch the joint close as the tapered peg is pounded inward -- that scarf joint is tightening up very nicely. A great time-tested way to get around a lack of long timbers. I've never been to Japan, but I'm assuming that long timbers are very precious there.
