Boredom and invention go hand in hand. :-) What do you typically use the Bigfoot for? - that 21mm throw is more designed for polishing isn't it? While continuing my search for the utopia of cordless vacs, I came across this by Metabo - www.metabo.com/uk/en/tools/cordless-tools/cordless-random-orbital-sanders/sxa-18-ltx-125-bl-600146840-cordless-random-orbital-sanders.htmlAlso zeroed in on the relative heights of these sanders - both the Festool etsc and the Metabo above are 150mm or thereabouts, and the Bosch is 108mm - for the same reason I relish working with the Mirka Deros, I'm persuaded the Bosch will 'feel' better when using. Not sure of the sander body/battery interface in the Metabo, looks on the clunky side.

Yes, polishing with the rupes. Wanted some branch scuffs taking out of the vehicles years ago and just to buff them out the shops quoted very high, plus had to empty & leave vehicles, so I bought a polisher and it more than paid for itself. Don’t use it much anymore so I started slapping 3M scotch-brite pads on it to clean stuff (even sopping wet they stick well enough, the green at least). Now that it’s demoted I began to wonder about using it for heavy sanding.
The low profile of the Bosch is also what attracted me to it. I thought maybe it was a cordless nod towards the Deros with vibration to match. Pleased to see in that video that much larger batteries can still be used, not that you would, but that you are not restricted should you need to. Really wish he had hooked up a vac to it though.
A cordless with a supple lightweight sub 1”/25mm hose, like those Mirka supplies with their hand manual sanders, would be very good.

It does have a Deros vibe to it, the difference in height is only 13mm (Deros is 95mm). I've found the swapping out of batteries after around an hour of sanding, is a good thing re giving yourself a mini break. Absolutely agree about going for a thinner hose, though I reckon my Starmix 35mm would work well enough, and no power cord to worry about. As long as Bosch have got the torque right, and it works as efficiently as a corded model (as festool managed with the rtsc), this is definitely on my list. It'd be interesting to hear how the Rupes performed as a sander - I'm struggling to get my head around what a 21mm throw would do.

Waiting on a 6” backing pad, some 60 grit Abranet, and something worthy of the test. All I had to demo on was a small portable BBirch job site work table that I never coated and wanted to clean the dirt off before spraying poly. Hit it with a 6” 120 Abranet disc using the, recently cracked, 5” backer pad and it was a wild but very short ride. Oddly a rather glassy feel to the top (though maybe it was a used disc?). I’ll post again when I find something with some old paint etc. Been using an ultra light 15mm id hose, only available1.8m length with rubber ends, yet the right combo of rigid (crush proof) and suppleness on cordless router and will try it on a 2mm palm sander next. On a router it’s just passable. When compared to Mirka black 25-ish mm (?) hose they supply with ‘Roundy’ the Mirka hose on the router gets it done and hits the sweet spot. The 15mm hose evacuates dust just fine but leaves behind caking. So I’m curious to see if it’s just enough for light sanding inside shop. My search for an ultralight hose comes from not wanting any hose interference when free handing with router but the same characteristics translate to sanding. Currently using the Mirka hose for vertical stuff. In photos I remove a 32mm hose end, thread hose through tool hole top of a ladder, screw it back on, then drop the Mirka butt plug on top.
