Hey guys. Have been using this setup for couple of weeks and have been happy I have the Starmix 1635H with a Festool cyclone. I also have a bag inside the vacum I mainly use it with concrete and what I have noticed is that the dust gets past the bag. I was hoping I could keep it all away from the filter as I have also noticed some 0.1% gets past the filter and is inside where I open the vac. Should I worry about that? Also other thing is at some point it starts peeping. Should I maybe just skip the bag? Also other thing. Is there a better vac out there? I was looking at the Hilti ones ![]() as I mainly use hilti. Maybe Nilfisk? ![]() IMG_0867 by andres petur, on Flickr ![]() ![]()

The alarm is from the airflow sensor. There's insufficient air coming through. Maybe due to the cyclone fitted, restricting "normal" airflow? I use an Ultimate Dust Deputy on a Starmix/Metabo ASR50M & an old (non-alarmed) F/tool CT22 without issue.
Maybe due to the small interstices in your dustbag (paper or polyester?) becoming prematurely blocked by concrete fines? Had a similar thing happen with superfine airborne dust (50+ years) accumulation in an old abandoned upstairs flat. Vac stopped sucking without any meaningful dust appearing in the bag. Just blocked all the bag's pores & stopped working!
Probably a combo of both these 2 causes.
Remember that these Starmixes are designed for concrete dust. Normally you fit an open-topped polythene bag which allows the autoclean to shake off the dust that inevitably accumulates on the 2 filters. I doubt that there's a better vac made - at least on the sensible side of silly money - for concrete dust.
As for dust getting "through" the cyclone & bag to the filter.... are you sure the bags are being properly fitted?
Maybe try the recommended polythene dustbag approach & keep a "clean" set of filters for other non-concrete jobs?
Maybe a short 50mm antistatic hose between the vac & cyclone might help, assuming that it's a 36mm hose that you have fitted? Can't readily tell from your photograph.

How do you mount that bag? I dont understand the open topped

Also one thing. Can I wash the filters?
One more thing. Found out my bag is polyester

They're basically just an open-topped plastic carrybag with a normal vac-bag inlet for mounting to the vac's inlet & a plastic tie & inlet plug for closure & disposal. You could theoretically just be able to empty, shake & re-use a bag almost indefinitely as they're solid polythene & don't perform any filtration duties whatsoever. So there's nothing to block. You could also theoretically forego the bags altogether, but this I personally would discourage, as you don't want such fine, abrasive dusts to accumulate within the machine.
They're extremely heavy duty plastic as I'm sure you realise just how heavy a full load of concrete dust can be. Don't want that full bag tearing as you lift it out!
How do they work? Rather counter-intuitively. The open bag allows the dust to accumulate in the tool's hopper, where gravity allows it to fall down into the bag. To prevent (actually slow down) filter blockage, the autoclean feature alternately vibrates the filters periodically as required to shake off accumulated detritis. The antistatic properties of the filters also assists here.
The open-topped bags are simply folded over the top of the vac's hopper, with the clamped motor unit completing the seal. Simple but effective!
Yes, the (polyester) filters are washable. Try tapping them out first, or even (if possible) use an air jet from the inside to loosen any accumulated dust first & then wash & dry thoroughly before re-use to prevent any remaining concrete dust turning into slurry & then re-setting into hardened concrete!
Keep your polyester bags & a clean pair of filters for less messy (non concrete) jobs & you will have the best of all worlds.

You'll find a control by the hose inlet to change between fleece or open bag, this needs to be in the right place.
Some of the dust gets through from the bag to the filters, but shouldn't visibly get past the filters, make sure they are properly pushed down. You can wash the filters, they must be dry before putting back in.
You can use the vac without bag, it's a mess to clean up though, but makes a good wet vac.
I often use a Festool cyclone on my 1635H - with a fleece bag, and if doing concrete work, I put in to AR (filter clean) mode.
I found it beeped too often and cut the wires to the alarm, just the red light flashes now.
I have a spare set of filters for 'clean' work.

Doesn't seem like an excessive amount of dust getting through to me.

Doesn't seem like an excessive amount of dust getting through to me. So you would say this is just normal?

I'm not sure mine is better; it's on a jobsite where I won't be back until January, so I can't check.

The black open plastic bags just make emptying the tub easier/less messy, no different than placing a trash bag inside a trash can - it's just a liner. You mentioned that your filters are hepa so to my eyes it does seem that dust is getting past. I think huntsgemein & aas have the right idea when they suggest you should examine fit.

I looked at the filter before taking it out. What I think might have happened is the filter gets clogged and from the suction power it gets lifted a bit and dust gets through. It was super clogged to be honest and with the worst type of dust. Paint and concrete.

Sounds about right.
I washed my 'old' set of filters, one of them really doesn't like the autoclean cycle anymore.
I've just sanded a concrete floor - no bag!.. oops!.. I'm going to have a mess to clean out there!

I just noticed after grinding today that I am getting dust past the filter in the same spot. Could there be a hole in the filter? I swapped the filters but am afraid of destroying the motor.
