Hi,
I'm a new member interested in the DDF40 or perhaps the DD40P.
I'm fairly new to woodworking but I've been Diy'ing around the house for a couple of decades I guess. I have a good catalog of hits and misses under my belt but now I really want to up my game and achieve a more professional finish to my work.
I've had a TS55 saw for a while now and I love it, so I decided to get myself a Festool OF1010 router and a CTL Midi extractor.
In fact, I've almost got all the tools I need to replace our kitchen, do some furniture for the bedroom and refit the office.
Next purchase will be a jointer and hole drilling so an obvious direction for me to go would be Domino + LR32. I really like the look of the Domino but the LR32 leaves me cold. Looks like a lot of flapping about and IMO, hugely overpriced( in the UK, it's more expensive than the OF1010 router). I also glaze over when watching demo's of it so, not a good sign really.
I watched a Peter Millard video about the DDF40 and thought that might work for me so here I am!
Future proofing is important as I have other Projects I'd like to attempt. Making Eurorack Modular synthesizer cases as a possible 2nd business. Materials used can range from 10 - 20mm. I read through the threads and was surprised to find someone already doing that with a Lamello.
I'd also like to fit out out a camper van and build a bigger workshop and make some speakers so I'm after something pretty versatile.
My understanding is that the DDF40 replaces the DD40G and the DD40P is a larger version of the DD40G and does not have the improvements of the DDF40. Is that correct?
Another question I have is regarding shelf/hinge/runner holes. Can the side fence included in the maximax kit be used for all hole drilling or do I need the template too? I have about 20 cabinets to do with one being a 2m fridge cabinet but I'm really hoping I don't need the template extension. They're 50/50 mix of shelves and drawers. I know the DDF40 can't do 35mm hinge holes but can it do the 2 screw hole either side? what are your collective techniques for doing hinge cutting?
Sorry if all of these questions have been asked before. I think once I'm confident I can do every thing I want to do, then I'll pull the trigger on the DDF. I'm based in London so any hints on dealers where I might be able to get my hands on one would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Jim
