I can't stomach the $160+ cost for the Systainer + base plate at the moment, especially since I have a spare L-Boxx sitting around due to some summer cleaning and a router.
Does anyone have any tips/suggestions to making a base plate to go in an L-Boxx or Systainer that will make life easier? Should I design the thing so I have to fully raise the saw prior to storing (blade stores 'up'), or do you all have better luck with it down?
The MT55 stores angled down (presumably because it's in a smaller Systainer box), but also because then shock loads will actually distribute and redirect energy along the entire saw to multiple axis vs concentrate normal to the base of the saw (not speculating here, angling will help with this). That said, is that even needed? I don't plan on kicking my saw down stairs or anything; but having a bit more margin when driving on our 'paved' roads over here might be nice, too.

Doesn't it come with a systainer? If it fits in the L-boxx, add some foam glued in the right places and you're good to go.

Nope, not the KSS version, at least the NA version. From reading other's reviews, the coffin box (that does store the KSS Rail) appears to be typically just left in the attic, and I don't need more boxes I'm storing just for the heck of it...
I'll play around with foam, thanks!

I use foam in an L-Boxx for my KS80 - works fine. Have room for both edge guides and the angle fence and blades.

Old cut-up yoga mats (high density foam) & judicious use of glue can piece together a pretty effective box liner & cradle for expensive power tools.
