Hi guys, my kss 400 recently let me down.
The saw just stopped working after a few normal cuts.. Been 3 years having it and no problem so far. I suspect something’s wrong with the battery safety switch.. Anyone know what it might be? I just got no response from the main switch, no noise nothing and batteries are full.
Cheers

Check the bushes aren't dirty or contaminated in some way. I had that with mine when it was fairly new and nothing happened when you went to switch it on. I put it in for a service and they gave the bushes a clean and has been fine since and that was over 3 years ago

Hi,
thanks for your support! I contacted mafell service but haven’t sent in the saw yet as it’s out of warranty since a month... Do you mean the brushes? Do you think i can do it myself or better to send it in? Cheers

Yeah the brushes. You should be able to do it yourself. It's just a case of taking of the end cap if I remember correctly and they should be accessible. Failing that even taking to somewhere that does electric motor repairs

Hi, I just cleaned the brushes but no success.. The saw just make no noise at all.
I'll probably sent it in.. Or do you have any advice?
Thanks a lot,
Fred

Unless you’re just going to send it in for repair, I’d approach it this way - What do you feel comfortable inspecting or what is easily accessible to inspect / test? I repaired an old cordless drill recently and, as is typical with these, the trigger was at fault. Have you or can you inspect if there is current flow passing trigger, do you feel comfortable opening case to see if a wire has come loose, and so on.

Yes I already opened it at first, did’nt see any loose cable at the main switch, I think it could be the small lever that engages with the battery that might be at fault. I’ll probably give it a shot before sending it in. thanks,
fred

Hi Guys,
I finally sent the saw back and received it back. It's a bit weird because the noise and behavior of the saw changed.
The brake motor is now way slower than before, less immediate. And the saw starts differently than before, feel less torque at the start. What do you think? Should I ask what they did/replaced? It's not written on the bill, only elektronik for 130 chf.
thanks
fred

Did you send it to Mafell Germany?.. of course ask them what they replaced and tell them if you are not happy.

I filed the problem on the mafell website and they redirected me to the official swiss repair shop but don’t know more. I will check with them but it’s a bit annoying as the saw is not on warranty since a few months... I’ll Keep you posted Cheers fred

If you explain to the repair shop, I'm sure they can say what was done and have another look at it for you.

hi, finally I didn't sent the saw back because I needed it and it was still "sawing";-), so I got used to have less brake motor and I just dont bother about it anymore... Feels a bit more like a classic tool which I dont mind as it asks for a little bit more attention.
Cheers,
Fred
