Hello gents,
(My apologies if it is wrong section, but I did browse through
)
I am lost now, as which Mafell saw I'll be getting ("Santa thingy"), as my new Bosch GKT55 base got twisted or has been twisted delivered already, but have been noticed and saw returned promptly...'ish, causing me ask all of the following.
For the starter's, I'm a carpenter- joiner for over 20 years, have worked with/owned fair share of all sorts of tools, that are a bit of obsession of mine. "Right tool for the right job" being Moto, but looking for a one saw to cover most of my requirements... still, I remain practical and honest, admit having few tools purchased, tested and loved, but not used properly ever past testing stage.
Not so, as it comes to the circular "skill" or plunge saws- those I use extensively, when it is reasonable to do so and I am in my "perfectionist" mode, else, I just do with as what's at hand, IE all-rounder Hitachi C7B2 (~£90 currently)... Or even my cordless Ridgid, but those will never produce finish edge.
Back to the Bosh GKT55 (~£360 UK)- seemed to be worthwhile copy of Mafell MT55cc, that I worked with briefly in the past- loved Mafell and all sort of rumours apart, I suspect the base of B. GKT55 to NOT to be identical to M. MT55cc, but both saws accuracy is the main reason, I'm contemplating "another" one very soon. Love both models feature of fitting on both main rail systems.
Owned Hilti WCS265 (~£420 about 12 years ago, with all sorts of discounts), loved the extra power and extra capacity, few draw backs thought- base a tad too frail and riving knife is way too fiddly as an retraction mechanism, in the end had reductor packing up, hence the "adventure" with Bosch. Not available to purchase no longer, but more to the point- I don't mind plunge from the back (as "regular" circular saws) or the plunge from the front as from "plunge rail" saws, as long as I get "finish" quality cuts.
I own FesTool rails(kit), that is bit of added conundrum, as yes, Mafell/Bosch type of rails are OK, but are very specific, expensive (comparitevly) and sort of forcing me in to "MT55 corner", as I'm not keen to bin FesTool rail system, also FT rails are sufficient for routing purposes as a straight "back" edge using clamps.
Worked with FT TS55 will not be "slacking" it, but felt clearly underpowered, bit on a plasticky side of manufacture quality, also the same of a "problem" as B. GKT55 and M. MT55cc is capacity for dealing with FD60(Fire Door 1hr) or external (55mm plus) doors, using rails ((bit of a trade "secret" when manufacturing those, I "undercut" 1 or 1.5° on a plank to remain compliant with not touching the lipping and being able to maintain 3mm max gap on 55mm door for fire reqs)) or to cut letter boxes. Available in UK for about £350
Or... I have considered FT HK55 (currently about £270) or even M. MS55 for about the same money, but they are not as universal, as I would need them to be, due to capacity limitations and have not tested/worked with personally, not sure of the cut quality would end up as "finish"... I anticipate little more of chipping from not dedicated plunge saw, but within reason, could /would consider them.
Worked with DeWalt cordless front plunge saw to make few cuts- seemed to cover all bases and almost got me tempted get one, however cut quality-"finish" has not been as good using it as neither one of front plunging saws, nor H. WCS265.
My first ever experience and "conversion" to rail saws has been FesTool FS75 - loved and do love almost everything about it, but have to admit- cut quality is just little insufficient to call finished, even increasing revs, end up leaving burn marks, just not what I am after (in 110v, in UK, they are available for about £520)
Any comments or corrections are most welcome and appreciated for any of the above
Now, I am literally torn and undecided on which model to chose, but ALMOST certain to be ready to pay that extra for Mafell, which one though?
Let's say, whilst cordless option has been tempting for many years... I'm not short of cordless tools, including options like hand saw
, but only viable contenders are DeWalt FlexVolt system (~£560'ish) or F. TSC55 li for about the same money, unfortunately M. MT5518v at about £820, just doesn't "activate my almonds" as 18v cordless power Vs value wouldn't be justified.
So the questions I have to fill my knowledge crater on all or any models , starting:
Mafell MS55 - yes, only fits on a Bosch/Mafell rails, yes, cut capacity is limited, but would it produce clean enough cuts to call it finished edge, will it have "enough of the guts" to cut IE solid Oak external 55mm door (of rail) (available for about £280 in 110v naked ...truly naked, not even parallel guide is included)
M.MT55cc (available for about £420), yes, would fit on my FT rails, yes (no) or maybe- lack cut capacity as most of the other saws mentioned, but front plunge and such quality of design/manufacture - from experience- should serve me well, but, but, but
M. MT55 18MBL at ~£820, yes cordless, but being 18v only and way more expensive than either more powerful DeWalt DCS576T2 at ~£420 or F.TSC55 li for about ~£560, to be perfectly honest just preliminary nope...
Leaves me looking at 65 corded range from Mafell as KSP 65F for capacity, not coronary price of about £400, removable extractor adaptor (for IE trimming flooring against the wall ( could somebody confirm actual distance from the guard to the inside of the blade - "gap" to be 15mm?)), against B/M only rail system compatibility and... Would those cuts to be of reasonable quality? IE kitchen worktops worktops from the top.
And lastly K85 and KSS 300 and 400 systems... Sorry, but those are not of the right capacity for me ...
Unless I missed some/any Mafell model's/offerings for a rail guide mountable, quality saw.
Thank you very much for any ideas and input on this issue, in advance!
Cheers!
