Ok, I'll admit it. My schoolboy German is crap. In fact, the last time it was used in anger was as a young lad in 1983 whilst touring the "Ostbloc" on an old BMW. The old iron curtain countries of Czechoslovakia, Hungary, DDR & Poland never taught English to their citizens, so German (& Russian) were the only "common" language spoken. So as likely as not our mutual communication efforts were almost invariably unintelligible. However, hopefully some of you are better. From what I'm reading below, Metabo have a "new" range of guiderails, & a suspiciously Bosch/Mafell-esque joiner that fits only a couple of their new saws: the "57" cordless & the "55" corded. From what little I can deduce, this forms yet another (hopefully budget price) source of rails, splinterguards, joiners, angle guides etc. that are compatible with the others we all know & respect. It also means that there's a new range of saws to join those from Mafell & the new Bosch 18v cordless that fit their common rail system. Maybe even some all-new adapters for Metabo jigsaws too. Probably not Metabo routers, as M don't seem to be really serious about these tools anyway. So, that's 2 new corded & cordless Metabo, 3 new & old Bosch & a cool dozen or so Mafell saws that will interchange across a 100% compatible rail system & integrated accessory programme, allowing not just saws, but some routers, jigsaws (both corded & cordless) & possible future tools to work seamlessly together. You gotta love that, even if some of the current (abovementioned) tools are a bit dodgy! www.metabo.com/de/de/info/aktuell/presse/neues-fuehrungsschienensystem-fs/

Cool, maybe some new style clamps are on their way👍

Cool find huntsgemein. Between the clamp, angle guide & connector it looks like rails may be a hybrid (?) using Bosch connector with Fest like clamping slots. Those clamps might not be the correct ones but if they are then I imagine that rails might be a bit thicker than the Mafell/Bosch. I also read that the top of the rails are designed for easy glide - “ Thanks to a special covering on the top, saws glide easily over the guide rail”. Very interesting.

Doubt they needed to but they also reversed the way the rail connector inserts in relation to splinter guard.

So, do you think they're cross-compatible (with Bosch/Mafell saws) or not?
Will it be possible to add Bosch/Mafell rails & accessories to these Metabo ones too?

me? I don’t know squat.
But from what they list as their ‘new!’ & compatible clamp and guide it appeared that they insert into a larger channel like on Festool rail. Then I noticed, from that rail edge image, that the track connectors stepped edge vs 60º bevel edge is the one next to their splinter guard. So that even if the guide rail rib, that guides mafell/Bosch saws, matches / is perfectly distanced to splinter guard you most likely couldn’t join mafell/Bosch rail to Metabo rail. (would be very glad to be wrong). The idea that they turned the reception of the probably identical Bosch rail connector 180º does not give me much confidence though.
If they’ve included the mafell/Bosch rib then of course the rail 'stops' should work. The top mount / end of rail Aerofix vac hose connecter will most likely ‘mount’ (from other end) but seems unlikely that the rubber ribs will align / seal to anything.
Still, if it is a hybrid it’s design could lend itself / make easier the implementation of some killer future accessory - oem or 3rd party.

difficult to see, but it looks like there is no T-track on the top like the Makita, Festool, … tracks I'm curious to get a better close up view of them!

Don’t know what type of plastic Metabo is putting on top to make it worth their while but after owning my saw for a while every lubricant I have tried isn’t any better in my opinion than just cleaning track/rail and bottom of saw. Besides, the rib rubbing against the two plastic ‘snugging’ levers could be the bulk of resistance overshadowing any reduction in resistance elsewhere. If adding anti-friction strips are a noticeable improvement, and durable, I might try experimenting with some clear packing tapes either on top of the rails or on the bottom of the saw. I may have some old self adhesive Kapton tape or some uhmw around somewhere.

they appear to drill screw holes in their rails too.

Looking at their top view of the rail I'm now wondering it might be just as thin a rail as the mafell/Bosch except for the single clamp / accessory channel which would be the only section that's thick and is used exclusively as also the guide for the slot in bottom of Metabo saws? In other words they possibly opted not to use any proprietary Metabo rib and instead rely on the wide Festool slot in their saws to mate to the new rails (?) Otherwise the saw base slides over a Festool rib, a Metabo rib, and possibly a mafell/Bosch rib too.

From what I was told, as I have a bit of pull to get details, the Metabo specific slotted guide rail section in the new LTX 57 circular saw base is for an upcoming attached guide rail that will make it a carpentry style saw like the KSS 40 and KSS 50.

I downloaded the info and it does say that the rails are "compatible with several other brand saws". The angle attachment allows mitre up to 60 degrees and there is a bag for the 1600mm rail (would fit two or a 800/1600 combo I guess) but no bag for the longer rails.
To be released in September and also sold as "Set" with the KS 55 FS and Metabo 18 LTX 57 saws.
I might snag that angle unit if it turns out to be compatible with the FSN rails and a 1600 rail bag and see if it fits two Mafell rails...

Yes, they expect you to use the fest slot cut into the MT55. I've always wondered, since I don't have any fest track, ... I assume the mafell snugging wheels work in reverse for fest track wide rib?

Has anyone actually got these and used with a mt55 or kss60 ? I think these are now also available in 3m length which would be sweet! I need some new rails and am holding off pulling the trigger on the bosch/mafell ones.

As with Bosch/Mafell, they're available in 80, 160, 250, 310cm lengths. On page 386-387 of Metabo's online catalogue.
