Hard to argue with the R extrusion as a choice. But I’ll wager you would use a 2ft digital more if it were available to you. I almost always break out the digital to have handy. (There are times when if my saw is in use I’ve grabbed an f-rail, instead of going back to truck to get a longer level, and pressed the digital against the rails sawbase-guide/coupling-channel for a longer straight edge).
Obviously it’s going to depend on the type of work you do most, but from my perspective the need often arrises to allow a level rest on a shallow edge/ledge by itself. I find thinner levels more versatile in that respect and so more useful to me. Fitting between obstructions lengthwise is also a consideration.

How durable are the electronic levels? I'm VERY good at taking care of my tools, but sometimes things happen.
I often use a 2' level on something else to get a weird distance level.
Will.

Electronics can go bad all on their own without our help, but mine is ancient and I’ve never had one issue. Here’s an image of it opened up (scroll down link page). In anything you buy the boards & chip should be even smaller now, potted with a drop of goop to make them water resistant, etc. I imagine in dropping a level a short distance the electronics are far better protected than if you dropped your phone in a ruggedized case. Batteries in mine seem last a long time too. Remember though, no one is saying they are more accurate only more convenient to use, you don’t have to see the vial etc. One example; leave it on top of a surface with audible tone on and work down on the floor shimming. It’s also easier to show a client that what you did is level and that the house or the clowns work they hired before you is not. Even better, lets say you’re the clown and your work is crooked you can calibrate the level to read 0 thereby proving to client with your fancy level that they should cut you a check - before the other guy shows up with his level. You could pick up an Empire or Milwaukee, at a local box store with a good return policy, and play with it for a few days to see if you think it has value to you. I picked up my stabila sets at a tool show with the bag, which I recommend.

Milwaukee makes the best level storage bags. I would definitely pick one of those up. I have one and it's light years better than my Stabila bag.

Stabila it is. Thanks again fellas. Will I had a Stabila that was 17 years old. The viles were clouded and hard to read. Sent it to Stabila, recieved a brand new level in the mail no questions asked. Stellar customer service and warranty. My rotory level is a Stabila as well.

How durable are the electronic levels? I'm VERY good at taking care of my tools, but sometimes things happen. I have had the Bosch 120cm digital level since 2003. It is always in it's case and looked after, but has still fallen over a few times. The vertical vial went out, so it got chopped down to 100cm. It can always be reset and calibrated against a newer or guaranteed level. Still going after 15 years - so I'd say it is durable.

this doesn't belong here but that little BMI tape came and I like it very much so far. I can see why mattuk has several. I'll try and figure out some kind of hook end for it (prob a swivel) and pick up the longer version too.

I went with the R beam set. It came in Friday. Looking forward to using it on Monday.

That’s a handy site to know about. I’m liking those NWS plumbers pliers, they look even thinner than my Knipex. (wonder if they’re as strong?) The BMI Meter is so lite & small I can keep it in a shirt pocket if I need, however I threw the supplied belt hook in the drawer and made a red heat-shrunk neodymium magnet that hangs off of my belt instead. It’s ‘the’ ideal way to hold the measure… you can jump off a ladder and it stays (the stainless they use is highly attracted to a magnet). Sometimes you need to cut on the wrong side of the line with tracksaw and the Meter is nice to use to add kerf to measurement, it lays flat, pushes perfectly against splinter-guard, doesn’t roll back up, lite & doesn’t interfere on a cutting top like heavier paper weight measures do. I did order the longer one, not sure it will get as much use.

The verdict is that the Knipex cobras are nicer than the NWS alikes. I can't speak on the standard water pump nor the pliers wrench type. I REALLY like their (NWS) combinations pliers and side cutters. And, in general, I really really really like their (NWS) 3 component handles.

Thanks for the info, I'll stick with the Knipex then. I've grown to appreciate their older style handle over the years. It's a medium hard plastic, not the foam, and the material and design keep me confident from hand slipping & touching the steel when working with electrical or hot metals. Not sure they still offer it.
