this is the second time I've had to tighten the blade on my Erika over the last couple months. the saw stays in my van and its been very cold as of late. not sure if the temp change can effect this but I've never had this problem with any other saw. yesterday it came so loose i could turn the screw with my finger. do i just need to tighten the shit out of it?

Temp cycling can definitely loosen fasteners over time--the screw holding the washer in on my shower faucet cartridge gradually works its way out at least once a year, resulting a horrifying rattle that sounds like the entire house is about to fall apart--but that sounds a bit excessive, especially considering the thread direction. Are you sure somebody's not messing with you?

Interesting. I'm having similar symptoms with my own saw: Metabo TS254. In my case it seems to be down to the savage action of the blade brake loosening that left handed arbor nut. Just like my Bosch blue cordless drills' chucks were inclined to do with rapidly repetitive stop-start work.
I've resorted to tightening that mo-fo down so much that the rather shitty thin section (Chinese) wrench has bent as a consequence. Remember the days when you'd get premium quality "Ruhrgebiet-made" Heyco or Rheidco et. al. wrenches with your German/Swiss power tool/motorcycle etc.? Those days are apparently long gone.
Which reminds me: I'll have to source a better quality alternative to grind down nice & thin as a substitute before I do some real damage. Suggestions?

In situations where fasteners are loosening, whether due to vibration or temperature cycling, I've heard some people will wrap the bolt with a layer or two of teflon (plumbing) tape. This adds a little extra friction to the connection. Otherwise you can always try a dab of LockTite?

Yeah, Loctite 567 is real easy to break without heat or excessive force and might stop it from wiggling just enough to hold. At the very least it'll provide a slight buffer between the two metals that seem to have different expansion coefficients.

But I'm just going to tighten it again and see if it happens again. Ive just never had this happen on any saw before.
