Is it new?.. (the Elu) - looks unused.

It was in a router table for 25 years before it got into my hands. So, no battle damage, but plenty of wood chips and resin that got cleaned up. I never found the proper dust collection accessory, so the poor guy sat idle until I gave up and recently built a table for it (incra cleansweep is in my car boot as I type). Oneida recently released a universal dust collection thingy. Screws were too big for it.

The 'proper' dust collection I thought was very good in the '90's when I got mine - the only reason I want to change it now (or add to the collection!) is to have good dust collection! Excellent router, far superior to the DeWalt and other later versions of it (Trend I think) - mine still going strong after 25+ years. I wouldn't waste your time getting hold of the original dust collection - only works in very limited situations.

Please don't say the dust collection is no good. If I ever get my hands on the long discontinued DeWalt DW6915 kit, I don't want my holy grail moment to end in holy calamity. I thought about swapping the base with one from a current 625 revision to be able to use the new dust extraction accessory. Alas, that's the one part you can't buy from B&D/DeWalt service centers. A salesguy at the local Woodcraft has the DW6915 kit for his Elu, and he rubs it in my face whenever he sees me. :0 Anyway, my primary intention was to get other members to post beauty shots of their still in service Elu gear. Passing the conch, I am.. Attachments:

Annnnnd, it turns out that we can purchase the DW625 REV3 base. It's part 329820-49 and would cost $150 in the USA. No below the base chip guard though (ala Festool). Hmmmmmm....

The Elu 177/E (or whatever silly uniquely North American model designation that the local importer calls it) is the Dw624 & 5, is the CMT & is the Trend T10/11. Ergo, the (current) Trend dust collection kit for this family (readily but not inexpensively available from literally hundreds of UK & other global dealers) SHOULD fit.
I emphasise the word should as firstly I've never tried myself, & secondly I seem to recall reading somewhere in another online source many years ago that some minor modification (filing the perspex extraction mouldings??) were required to fit the new Trend extraction fitting/s to the older Elu base.
As far as "below the base extraction" is concerned, that's an integral fixture of the modern DeWalt DW625 fence assembly. Readily available as an accessory worldwide. The fact that virtually all parts fit across the almost 40 years of Elu DeWalt production is yet another testament of just how fine a design that original Elu was. Sure, it has it's problems: a sticky plunge action was a particularly frustrating feature despite those phosphor bronze rod bearings in my experience. But no other router design (except the Elu 96 of course) has had such extraordinary longevity.

I have that (had, I can't find it at the moment), it didn't fit. Even better, guess whether or not Americans got dust collection on their fence in 1989...guess. 🤣 Obviously the current dewalt/trend fence are a direct swap (I think), so no big deal. Nonetheless, the Elu is in my table.

There is a down-side to the "new/ish" fence/extraction assenbly: it just isn't as nicely made as the old one. Instead of the precision Swiss die-casting assemblies of fence & fine depth adjuster, the fence itself is a rather crude steel stamping & the fine adjusting bar a rather rough aluminium casting. Nevertheless, it still works the same, & a plus factor is that it will fit (i.e. work with) both 8mm & 10 mm guide rods & the different spacings of all former & current "Euro" plunge router designs.
The Trend version does come with what superficially appears to be a more nicely made fence assembly (lacking integral extraction) that may not actually work any better than the cruder DeWalt original.
