Yes the new mafell drills are made by metabo with some changes to the housing, belt clip and some tweaking to the internals to optimize the gear to torque ratio or something in that nature

Hi Erik, I had a chance to "test" both recently (read, drive a few screws). I found the PDC more ergonomic in my hands, but the Metabo definitely killed it when it comes to power.
I'm glad Metabo decided to slim the handles down a bit compared to their previous brushed generation. Feels a lot better now but for some reason I liked the Festool better in my hand. In any case the feeling in the hand is different for every person so you have to try them out yourself. The PDC looks like it would be a little more balanced w/ the Jacobs chuck as well, whereas my Metabo feels a tiny bit front heavy with it. That said, the Metabo is really really short when using the quick hex check or the Centrotec. Coupled w/ the compact battery, it's really small and light enough to replace my smaller cabinet drill (previously a 12v Milwaukee) while I find a better replacement.

I found my metabo to be front heavy as well with the jacobs chuck, but I've gotten used to it, plus most of my applications are screwing so it's not on all the time. When drilling it is a solid all metal chuck, really top of the line and I don't find the balance to be a problem in those applications. Side note my festool chucks fit it so I have options to lighten it up if it is a problem, but prefer the metabo chuck over all.

A couple of different users have remarked about the the dissimilar scale to an average man's hand with the Metabo. Its funny, from all the images, I always though the PDC looked a bit strange with the jacobs chuck seemingly set at a slight inclined angle, but I guess they balanced it out. Right now I am using a Panasonic. which claims close to 54NM and I will not mention the company they collaborated with to make this drill but I originally was using their partner brand until I felt they burned me at their service department. Suffice to say, the panasonic drill and impact are plenty powerful but I really like using the 90* degree adaptor on the festool when drilling for in-place sistered joists.
I really want to consolidate my cordless platform, or at least reduce it to 2 manufactures, but I cannot seem to get all that I like out of one manufacturer. And at 400+ per item, I don't really feel these are disposable.

After looking at the torque of the 36V Bosch at 600 in-oz, I got 4-1/4 NM when converting to NM. That little M 10 A say 17/34 NM high and low speed., so I am guessing it is really torquey? I sorf of fancy the 800 grams and the slim battery too, as I have a two handed Bosch with a cord that gets through most everything if/when I need it. So I am trying to talk myself out of buying one, and would appreciate some help. As I may be headed to Europe in a month or two, I am thinking it may be possible to buy it there. the Airline's regulations say <25gm of Lithium and under 100 W-hr... But then other sites say after 1 Jan is no litium allowed, so I am at a loss. There is not even an importer here so maybe I should just stich with the Bosch as it seems to work, but the most recent battery is not holding charge too long anymore. Maybe I should see if they sell batteries for it still, or if it is a drama getting them. OK - Talk me out it... Does anyone know if the Festool Centrotec stuff fits onto Metablo/Mafell?

The standard centrotec chuck fits the metabo just fine As do festools Jacobs chucks. The metabo Jacobs is heavier as it's an all metal chuck but is of superior quality. What won't work is any festool chuck with a locking collar such as the off center chuck or their standard right angle attachment

Does anyone know if the Festool Centrotec stuff fits onto Metablo/Mafell? It does. I don't have much Centrotec stuff (just some Zobo bits), but I don't really see/feel much advantage over regular 1/4" hex. A high quality bit set/bit extension is just as solid, and the Jacob's chuck when you need real precision, which isn't that often. Attachments:

I did acquire a Centrotech set on sale a while back... So none of the 90 degree jobs, and mostly bits (phillips +), Torx, etc) jmHow do you like the Metablo? I am still not certain about the differences between the Metablo and the Mafell... I think something about the handle grip, and colour.

I'm liking it quite a bit so far. I wasn't a out to pay extra for branding. The mafell looks cooler but I'm not buying jewelry, I'm buying a tool. Plus I get 3 year warranty on the metabo in canada where it would be only 1 for the mafell

Ya grip is nice and comfy for me but I've got man hands, being a man and all. I'm still running the drill through some preliminary paces.I'll write a full review in a couple of weeks. I do have some negatives about the drill but those are more distribution gripes than anything

The Metabo version of the 18v drill is on special down here at the moment - 20 to 30% off if you buy in a combo. Going to stop in and have a look tomorrow. If I really like it, and their impact driver, I might consider selling my Hilti gear and moving over.

It's a good piece of gear, I'll try and get to writing about it perhaps Friday night.
