I have just ordered a duo midi here in the uk now the question is which template rail to get for it. Is there any advantage to buying a 1600 long rail? (Apart from the fact its longer!) Is it easy to repeat the 800 long rail for a long run of holes? Is there a system for this or a good teqnique anyone has? Or a video worth looking at? Thanks guys

I have the 800 rail. The 800 rail on its own can't do a long row of holes over 800 on its own. If you want to do a row of holes over 800 you will need the 1600. It is possible to join the 2 rails together to give 2400. If you are doing the likes of standard kitchen base or wall units then the 800 is adequate. The 800 rail clamps at the edge with 2 blocks. Where the 1600 is clamped with clamps.

Another thing is you maybe want to buy the 5mm drill bits. The mafell bits can be on pricy side especially the 16mm. Cmt do the bits at a more competitive price. If you need a number I will dm you it.

Can't help you with UK sources as I'm from sunny Canada, but do keep us posted on how you get on with your new kit, especially any little learning curve hiccups you might have as this will help any others interested in this equipment.

Well new kit just arrived. Straight out of the box and very impressed with build quality, feels really solid.
Bit lacking in instructions is the only slight gripe. I thought before that the festool track saws were the top of the tree but the mt55 is different class. Very intuitive to operate and feels really solid compared to the ts55.

Used them both today and really happy i switched to mafell. Cut a spray finished sheet using the scoring function for a perfect cut, awesome!
Then joined the same boards using the dd40. Perfectly alined and strong joint.

Thanks. I realised its important to always referance off one face with the dd40 to get everything to line up

Thanks. I realised its important to always referance off one face with the dd40 to get everything to line up Always a good practice unless you take the time to center perfectly.
