That is awesome. Love the picks.
What did you use to mount it to the fireplace?

That is awesome. Love the picks. What did you use to mount it to the fireplace? Contractor friend I made it for mounted it, so I'm not sure what his method of installation was.

A long time I did a similar thing the client wanted an oak mantle coming out of the wall with no visible support. What I did to support the timber was to get some rebar and drill some holes in the oak that was to fit next to the wall and put some hilti resin in the holes and then put the rebar in twisting it leaving about 6 inches sticking out to go into the wall with holes to match the timber. Again putting resin in the holes then lifting the oak into place and provided a temporary support. In fact after just getting it fitted the client decided they wanted it a bit higher and could I lift it up. It hadn't being in the hole 2 minutes and it was already stuck fast. I had to cut the rebar and start again. All got sorted and everybody was happy. I can't remember how many fixings I put in it was such a long time

I'm building one similar to that in about a weeks time. Not as big but same simple design. Although its certainly going to take me longer than an hour.
