Hello-
i understand that the Mafell Erika is the best portable/job site saw available in the USA right now. Performance wise, what would be a comparable cabinet saw?
Cheers,
Paul

I am not sure the Erika would be comparable with cabinet saws but instead as you stated in your first sentence I think it would be the best portable/ job site saw. In the portable category it obviously has a lot more features than the typical DeWalt, Bosch, Rigid, Makita, etc etc. If we start comparing it to cabinet saws on the other hand, in my opinion it wouldn't be hard to find a lot of more productive sliding table saws with two blades that would be superior to the Erika. I may be squinting at words here but I think it is a necessary distinction. In my opinion if you have a shop with space and the table saw does not need to move then there are better options. In the portable group the Erika seems to be the best available. Keep in mind this is all coming from someone who does not own the Erika but is familiar with a lot of the features from research. Hope this helps and is relevant to what you are looking for.

Probably the Hammer K3, however its really apples and oranges. If I did not need the portability I likely would have gone that way, but I do need to be able to move the table saw around and the Erika fit the bill perfectly. I don't think there is anything else close to it available in the US. Festool folks have been hinting at maybe something in the works (CS50/70 ?) and that would probably deserve consideration if they ever introduced it.

Cheers, Paul Hi, i own the Erika 85 since about 1 year now and its just great. I bought it because i don't have enough space for a cabinet saw like a hammer or a used smaller Altendorf etc. If it comes to larger workpieces its sometimes not easy to handle them on the Erica. I already have the sliding table but i will buy the table extension too asap! Also you need extensions for the 1m-fence and a second one as extension for the parallel guide which i also have. Its a fantastic saw, but if you have space and if you don't need a mobile saw: buy a good (!) cabinet saw. If not the Erica is the best you can buy for (a lot of) money ;-)
