I recently purchased kss40.Beep beep and puff dead. I sent it back. Turns out the motor fried. replaced and sent it back. Said it was a fluke... 2nd day on job after repair beep beep again and and shut down. Confused. It turned out that when battery is down to 2/bars it happened again. It seems to be regular thIng now. So I just swap it for a full one when it happens. Anybody else going through this? I really like this saw. Its real time saver. Real time saver. Bummer!! The challenge with these newer tools is that there are so many "brains" in the works it's hard to trouble shoot. Is it the motor or the battery? Does it give you the bleep-bleep on both batteries when they get down to 2 bars, or just the one battery? It might be worth putting some masking tape on the batteries, marking them "A" and "B", and monitoring whether that condition manifests with both or just one? Which Ah batteries are you using? I can normally drain my Metabo 6.2Ah batteries down to zero. My KSS-40 was one of the very early units to come to North America. And yes still dbl beep when battery hit 2 bars....it is what is. Since my new motor and after about 3000+ cuts of trex and lubing track and bottom plate it been good. I need a kees expensive blade. At $50.00 each its stupid expensive? What are you guys using? A buddy of just gave me contact in Germany for bulk purchase but with this covid19 shut down I see no need to other then to buy what i need.

My memory suggests that my kss40 beeps @ two bars. I’m sure my mt55 does. Hasn’t been a problem, I swap in a fully changed battery, good to go.

What are you guys doing for blades. Dont tell me your buy at 50.00. I buy the Mafell blades, three of each kind that I use. This way I have one on the saw, one in reserve, and one out for sharpening. In between sharpening I use blade cleaner and a brass brush to keep the teeth clear of pitch and resin. The only reason I’ve thrown out blades is because I’ve used them for demo and they’ve shed teeth, otherwise I have yet to wear out a blade. If you’re regularly wearing out blades you should be including the price of a fresh blade in your bids as a consumable, same way you charge for nails and general wear-and-tear on your tools. That way it’s just another cost of doing business.

Citydecks: glad to hear your unit is up and running. About them blades I can't give you a good answer. I have six or seven blades for it and some bought and paid for by projects. They aren't cheap over here either though perhaps marginally cheaper. The rip blade is pretty cheap though.
It's been a while since I used my KSS40 - I have been shop bound for quite some time so a lot of gadgets are gathering dust at the moment!

Mine bleeped about 10 times in a day - this is a new bad record...

I actually sold off my KSS40 recently, to a fellow that bought my KSS300 back when I first got the KSS40.
I cleaned it up and test cut some 32x230 fir planks before packing it up. Cut it like butter. It is a very impressive little unit. But I need a machine that cuts studs (on the flat, at least) as well, hence the Festool HKC 55 which is a great machine though nothing like the KSS40 for convenience.
New blades are out for the HKC and I replaced my blades after building me a deck at home (old blades about to be sharpened up). Cuts very well for the intended purpose, which is "less delicate" cutting tasks, studs and decking. The HKC55 has been the moneymaker for me last couple of years. The KSS40 was always my favourite though.

No bleeping with my kss 40 (touch wood). It's used primarily for sheet goods and stock 25mm or less with the appropriate blade. I really like this saw. But...
Questions for those who have a HKC 55. Why the Festool instead of a kss 50? Do you carry both tracks?
I'd like a cordless saw with a bit more depth of cut than the 40. I'm enamored with Mafell tracks. The kss 50 would be the obvious choice. Unfortunately it's more than I want to spend. The HKC 55 costs less then half of the kss 50 but doesn't work on the Mafell tracks.
Curious what others are doing.
Thanks,
John

I got rid of my HKC55 but I'd buy another... the KSS40 is beeping a lot, still a great saw though. For thicker cuts I have the KSS60 - limited on blade options though.

When you had a HKC55 did you carry both brands of tracks?
How do you like the kss60? Does it rip well? I’m somewhat dubious that an 18 volt saw can rip 67mm of hardwood in a single cut.
Thanks,
John

I got the HKC55 out of the first shipment back in 2014 - had no Mafell back then. Got rid of most of my Festool gear as I felt I had bought a load of lemons... Carvex & TS55 to name the worst - hung on to the HKC55 and DWC drywall gun for a fair while. I started buying Mafell in 2016 the KSS40 was one of the earlier purchases to replace the HKC55 - the idea at the time was to trim down battery platforms.
The KSS60 is great for what I use it for - ripping and 45 degree ripping max 40mm wood (so about 56mm on mitres). I only have the 16 tooth blade for now. Cuts are clean and precise - it's not going to win a power contest though.
If you're regularly ripping 67mm hardwood, you need to be looking at a mains saw. If it's occasional, go slow with the KSS60 and it will do it.

Thanks again, good information. I’ve pretty much convinced myself that’s mains is the way to go for me.
