I was advised that mentioning "Brando and butter" in the context of FT Australian prices, results in a permanent FOG ban.
Somewhat surprised that they waited this long.

They don't seem to have much capacity for humour on that forum, & even less for irony. I can recall another rather tongue-in-cheek commentary about the primary reason for multiple Kapex failures being due to "poor old north america's 3rd. world electrical reticulation system". That attempt at (albeit oblique) humour likewise raised the ire of many viewers rather than any perception of irony.
Frankly, I find the Brando analogy to local Festool pricing policy both clever & apt.

sheesh, even humor is out? I was just about to post that perehaps 'subtle sarcasm' - raving about what a great deal you got only paying 300 more than the rest of the planet, might be fair play but I guess not.

Sorry Holmz, my bad! Again! Just searched out your "Brando" thread on t'other forum. It was actually an indirect reference to the act of lubricity. My fevered imagination had conjured up images of... erm... coercive acts to aid in the...um...abuse of the captive & unwilling....
Sort of like extorting unreasonable or even unconscionable prices for a certain firm's products by the act of reducing or even eliminating altogether any competitive or alternative lower priced alternative sources of supply. Retail ra.... um....molestation.
Have you REALLY been banned, or merely threatened with such? If the former, then it's a disproportionately draconian overreaction to such a triflingly insignificant indiscretion, especially as the reference was at best oblique. If the latter, then it's just another ridiculous example of angst-ridden political correctness.
If so, then I for one will miss your insight, jocularity & wit in a fora that all too often takes matters way too seriously.

It says,
"Sorry Holmz, you are banned from using this forum! Too many warnings. Brando and butter last straw. This ban is not set to expire."
The first warning was the use of the acronym BOHICA, so I guess there is a trend.
The phrase "Festool apologist" lately, when people give reasons why the tool are good just Poehler use them wrong. Which I am sure did not help. There are a few interesting threads. But generally it is all about tools and little builds.
Life is too short anyhow, so the drama will be good to avoid.

Thanks M8! I like it here.
However I have more to post on FOG,.. Mainly because they load me up with confirmation bias and lack of logic. Usually along the lines of, "FT is expensive because you get what you pay for", with the next sentence being, "Mafell is over priced.".. that is ~2/3rds. Or "FT is better because and costs more there is a 30-day warranty", followed by, "other tools last 10 years".
Here it is more towards professionals, who are also generally good natured and not "up themselves".

I don;t blame them - some of the stuff I wrote was acerbic when I wrote it, and condescending... ...In case you don't know, condescending is talking down to people Well the Mrs told me to get to work on a rolling cabinet. I got the twisted Cypress jointed and planned and will haul out the domino-700 - which is a rarity. Thinking of a basic ladder chassis deal with dominos and lag bolts, and shove an old kitchen cabinet on it for the interim. Would have made a good example of the use of a FT...

posted a little protest/defence last night on FOG holmz but it was deleted within ten minutes so I guess they are intent on chiselling your name of the hieroglyphs ,whatever you said it must have really stung.

It’s the participants who build the site into what it is, but monied interests benefit greatly in so many ways, mostly free, from market research to sales to advertising etc. A person trolling or victimizing others is one thing but requiring you to be ‘brand friendly’ and censor legitimate grievances about what someone feels are unfair practices is another. I don’t participate on FOG but have seen this happen with many other large forums when advertising or corporate takes an interest and wields it’s influence (or just feel threatened). When the defenses go up it also marks the beginning of the end in a way too. People start accumulating accounts using VPN and admins pull their hair out playing whack-a-mole with increasing notices and restrictions. I’d look for things to become a bit more unruly there.

That's pretty Stalinistic of them. What's next, individuals that oppose the ban also get banned and any talk of them is eliminated? It vaguely reminds me of how FOG reacted to the video of the TS55 disassembly and the Carvex comparison: We don't talk about these kinds of things here and you best not be involved with committing thoughtcrimes. Good members punish bad members by telling them they're looking at overpriced tools that break down often unlike the infallible Kapex which cannot run on inferior voltages and inferior electrical systems.

Stalinist? Goebles may be better as it is a propaganda reference, Things like... "Once you get the long 3M rail that TS55 is good... but if you need to cut anything thinker than playwood, get a TS75 as well"
Members all walking in locked step, is psychologically interesting. (Looking for the Wagner CD.)
