When the year of next rolls around, I'll want an excuse, to buy another Mafell saw. Surely, it makes sense to drop a grand on a saw just to fit exotic woods into my sedan at the local lumber store? 🤣
Question 1: Henrik can answer this one. Does the KSS40 run off of compact batteries?
Questin 2: 4/4 = 15/16"-1" = 23-25mm thick. Hardwood from all corners of the globe. Width from 4" to 10" (erm..like 100mm to 250mm).
Will I be fine?

The KSS40 does run on the compact batts, but I wouldn't recommend it.
I used to run mine on the LiHD 3,1ah batts - then I grabbed a 'heavy' LiHD 5,5ah one day as it was nearer - and the saw ran so much better - powered through the cuts better, seemed to run a bit faster, and certainly lasted a lot longer - since then, I only use the 5,5ah batts.
You'll be fine cutting the wood sizes you mention.

I use 3.5 lihd batteries and find they last almost as long as the 5.2 it came with. It's what I use most of the time.

Thanks for the feedback! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm currently a bit distracted by my repressed homosexuality.

Weird, my search for how to cure my repressed homosexuality lead me to this thread. Sorry for chipping in late but the KSS 40 runs "well" on 3,5 LiHD batteries for sheetgoods. The 5,5LihD are champ though. The new 7Ah batteries must be awesome. I did get me one of those but I have yet to use it!!!

Basically henrun the saw becomes bionic !!

Basically Henrun should be the name of an energy industry themed romantic comedy.
Also ran, new dilemma, which ones actually fit in the systainer?.... T-Wolf folks tell me that the standard LIHD don't fit none good.

LiHD are a bit of a squeeze but I can close the lid with the 5,5 LiHD mounted on the KSS 40, I mostly run the saw with the 5,5 LiHD. The 7Ah I don't know, might be tricky. I don't like that you need to slide down the saw with depth set deep to fit it in the systainer with the batteries mounted but at least it all fits. Chargers are a bit finicky too, I have the new larger 6A charger (cattle prod strength ) and it will not fit with the KSS40 so I use it to charge the LiHD batt's for the KSS50 and the Metabo mitre saw.

That seems odd that they would not supply the saw in a little bigger Systainer to accommodate the batteries.

I totally received my KSS 40 and separate non-lihd Metabo batteries before Henrik had a chance to respond. :0 There's totally room for the 5.5 Lihd...well...barely. :0 I have to say, I haven't noticed a need for LIHD on that saw, as of yet. But, I stress, I don't use it all day like the other owners on this forum. Mine's for hobby, not for trade. The amount of crosscuts a tradeperson makes in a day, I don't even make in a month.
Yes, I have noticed that Mafell likes to really cram things in. Hence the real reason they waited so long to switch to t-loc, I suspect. The bigger systainer wouldn't help much, because the lid holds the saw down (fighting against the bungee cord).
The flexi rail is the real pain; given that it's stretching the systainer open in four directions, while the saw is pushing a corner of the lid. I'll probably keep it out of the systainer.
I think I'm officially a guiderail collector now. I've got three or four Festool rails, three or four Bosch/Mafell rails, and now the KSS 300/40 flexirail. :0

Yetihunter: if you rotate the Flexirail so you have the handle on one of the longer sides it fits well. Rubber strip up so you can manhandle the Flexirail (snakewrestling the steering wheel of an 80's Cadillac in hot pursuit style) so it gets all the way down.
All that said the saw pushes on the Flexirail and must be lowered on the cross cut rail. It is always a bit of a squeeze unless you have done one hour of Yoga to a bowel emptying relax track and find yourself at inner peace, ready to face the German engineering ingenuity packaging complexity.

I discovered that the lid insert features instructions... in English! even! I'm in love with the KSS40. I held off for so long because it's really not intended for someone in my shoes. Well, seems one needn't be the target market to get a lot of use out of it. Only two issues:
1.) The flexi rail is shedding the antislip material.
2.) Same as the MT55 and P1CC: Every Mafell saw purchase causes me to want to buy even more Mafell saws. :0

The bigger systainer wouldn't help much, because the lid holds the saw down (fighting against the bungee cord). I remove the KSS40 from the rail before storing... I'm not sure it's a good idea to be leaving the bungee cord in 'stretched' position most of the time.
