That base is definitely interesting to me. Mind you there is the option of using the oval shaped base for the off set base as a stand alone base. I ordered one spare sole and have the oval shaped base for the Makita. Dirt cheap. That Alu base looks the part though! I have yet to use the oval base though! I have scraped by with the standard base but I too prefer more surface on the material, helps out with overall balance for sure. The 5Ah batteries last a very long time on the router. Adding a bare Makita makes more sense than adding another 12V system if you already have the Makita 18V battery/charger. Sure, Bosch is releasing a small, handy 12V planer but I can't help but think the 18V platform is more suitable for routing.

I’ve got both platforms not got the Bosch 12 v planer or router but picked them up they seem ok “ no dust extraction on router though” however the makita 18 v planer and router is a dream ,the planer is one of my favourite tools by a mile borrowed my colleagues router and that is exceptional too it’s on my next shopping list , made door hanging quite enjoyable

Do you chaps ( henrun, chippiegary) use the various bases that you get in the all-in 18V Makita router package - e.g. the offset base, the bevel base, the plunge base, or do you find the standard base suits most of your needs? At first glance the all-in package looks like a bargain but, as I think I mentioned, I'm becoming averse cluttering my workshop with redundant bits.

Yes, I haven't used the offset base yet, but I plundered it for the base to use as wider base. I feel the same with the cluttering effect but I house the Makita, two batt's and charger in a SYS-Combi II with router bits and pieces and have a SYS II underneath it for the extra accessories I don't use as much. Stack is tucked underneath the workbench but since I am using the Makita so much I am going to hand the charger to my backside of my workbench and leave the router out "in the open" on a small shelf to the side of the main workbench. That frees up the SYS II which will be back on a shelf and the SYS Combi stays inside the rolling workbench with all the sundries.
I had the same layout with the Virutex so I just shifted out the gear (no charger or batt's for the Virutex though). All in all the kit does not really take up any more space: one battery always on machine, charger to the side of the workbench and one battery in charger or on the mini mitre Makita DLS600 and no cord to coil up.
I am in the process of decluttering the work space a little so still working on shifting stuff around.

I’ve only borrowed my co workers but I will be buying one probably next week . Like you I have looked at the package but I will be using mine as a small mobile trimmer only so I think supplied base will suffice for my needs. Cutting out hinges , small round over bits etc . I think you will be very pleased with it I think it’s an excellant tool “ didn’t think I’d ever be saying that about a cordless router someone I knew years ago had a cordless porter cable I think , wasn’t good .

Do apple routers even have cores? They're miniature G5 computers. oh... apple...core... I'm slow today.

So should I buy the GOF1600 even though I have all of the Festool routers and one or two Elu routers or what?
EDIT: I played with it and moved on to wanting a DW625 to go with my MOF177/3338

I like the GMF/GOF 1600 but I don't love it. Haven't seen the DeWalt in the flesh but it looks like a traditional, strong router.
Plus side for the Bosch is compatibility for my rails, my OFA32 and my older GMF1400. The LED light on the Bosch is very nice.

The Bosch motor rides high and, for that reason, gives you a much better view of what's going underneath. I really can give it points for that. The Elu plunge routers were game changers and still hold strong (as evidenced by them still being manufactured). Festool's electronically controlled motors, dust collection, accessories and gimmicks far surpass the DW625. However, it's still a classic, for a reason. It just feels right (even though the handles are and always were crappy). The power switch and plunge lock are perfectly accessible. The build and finish quality may have gone down some (yes, I can confirm this), but the Dewalt (can't speak on trend) manages to have a higher wattage motor while feeling noticeably lighter.

EDIT: I played with it and moved on to wanting a DW625 to go with my MOF177/3338 As you already have an Elu 177/E you surely don’t really need another, even if it does come in Canary Yellow now & sports a mere extra 150 watts input power. If you REALLY want/need an updated model, then the Trend T11 variant is possibly the best designed & versatile version of this venerable machine.

I'm over it. I'm currently debating impact drivers. As if I even want or need a rattler.

Rattlers are like cowbell, some can't get enough of it, some loathe it.
There are times I sure wish I had an impact, might add one to the stable again this summer. Had me a few wrist-snapping experiences and up on a ladder an impact is safer for sure. Torque is sometimes best applied in short bursts. Ears will not agree though.

Ears will not agree though. my 3M Peltor Optime III's go everywhere with me - never found replacement ears!
